I have a problem with my headlights on my 94, the lights are suppose to turn on automaticly at dusk, but they do so way to early, or if I drive in the shade. I would like to know if anyone knows where the sensor is for these lights? Can it be disconnected?

I also have a 94 but mine doesn't seem to have this feature?
Was this an option or standard equipment?

Welcome To The Corvette Action Center!

Hmmm... I wonder who's been pulling your leg? ;)

Actually, could his car be a Canadian delivery car? I have read several stories of Vettes that were destined for Canada that had the automatic lights. Just a thought, but maybe that's the case.

Sometimes

mine turn on when a spooky ghost comes by and sneaks into the workshop and likes to make finger puppets in the twilight or when my little daughter decides to push and prod on the light switch (cause she thinks it is cool how they flip out)

Kinda, like me --- flipping out! :crazy

hehe

SPOOKY AUTO LIGHTS - Do you have the automatic windshield wipers too?

This may be a clue...

Either he was pulling OUR collective legs, or he discovered the error of his ways. Or maybe he just thought we were pulling his. :confused

DRLs didn't even come out on the Vette until the C6 correct?

Your avatar does you some justice! CLEAN SHAVIN' KEN! :)

I am still believing in the ghost in the workshop (or the machine for you POLICE fans) --- hehe :crazy

Hi all, No leg pilling here. The headlights do automatically turn on at dusk. This was origanally a Canadian car, and I am not sure if it was an option or stardard feature. I may have to take it to the dealersip to find out about it, bu I wae hopeing someone might be aware of this and save me a few bucks.
Thanks,
Gary

And no I do not have automatic windshield wipers!

is there anything on the dash, or other well lit area that looks like a sensor? maybe try running the car at night, and going around with a heavy duty flashlight to see if they turn off when you shine a certain area? if you find the sensor you may just be able to unplug it

hehehe

garycr14,

We have a number of Canadian Corvette owners here at CAC possibly one of them will chime in and give you some help.

Just using logic.. at least my way of thinking.. the sensor would probably be mounted so it would have the most exposure to light giving the circuit plenty of time at twighlight before coming on. Some cars equipment with this feature have the sensor mounted in the rearview mirror assy. or on the dash. The Flashlight idea from Vettlt193 just may be the ticket for finding the sensor unit.

I would also think you should be able to set the timer or adjust it or turn it off.

Good Luck finding this, and hopefully one of our Canadian Brothers or Sisters can help you

Ok...let's put the jokes aside - this member has asked a very legitimate question.

It sounds like you have a Canadian Corvette which is equipped with Daytime Running Lights (DRLS). My '90 is a Canadian Corvette and also equipped with the same.

Above the instrument cluster, on top of the dashboard, you should see a hole surrounded by what looks like a rubber grommet (I will try and take a picture of mine tomorrow and post it here). That is the DRL sensor. The sensor is very sensitive and when the car comes under long shadows, or shade, the lights may flip up. This becomes most noticeable in the fall and winter when the sun is not as high in the sky. It sounds ridiculous, but that's how the DRLs work.

The sensor can be disconnected. There is a product that you can purchase which will easily defeat them:

Contact them and tell them that I referred you to them and that you heard about them at the Corvette Action Center.

:duh Rob I forgot about your ZR-1 being a Canadian Corvette.. geeezzzzzz I've read the story a couple of times too :SLAP

Well....it's a '94....so both Ken. They are DRLs....and they pop up. :D :D :D

Ok....sorry....couldn't resist. :D

The DRLs to which I refer are the type that are exposed all of the time, like the C5. I know they had DRLs that are part of the normal headlamps.

I must apologize for my last statement about never hearing of this; While researching this, I now vaugely recall reading somewhere about the pop-up style headlights on a C4 Corvette. It was equipped with headlights that popped-up and came on, and they were complaining about the same thing--the lights were coming on when they passed through a shaded area. However, I haven't been able to find it yet. :o

I'll keep looking though. ;)

Nothing yet, but I did find this from an article on the 1995 Corsica:
There's also a styling side effect. If the headlights have to be on, pop-up headlights, like those on the Chevy Corvette and Pontiac Firebird, will become obsolete.
