Hi,
Anybody know what's making the front end on my 69 sound like a donkey? It's most noticible when I go over a speed bump. It goes HEEE on the way up and HAWWW on the way down. If I press and rock the front from either side It just screeches away. I had the ball joints greased and silicone sprayed the sway bar ends. Still screechin' Any ideas?

The bushings are black. I think they're rubber. But I don't know . Are poly bushings black as well?

If they are black, they are most likely rubber. Squeaks can originate from different sources: Bushings, Springs, Steering linkages, or even Shocks. Sometimes it is hard to pinpoint where it is coming from. One way I have located an offending noise is to put the handle of a long screwdriver to my ear and set the metal part near suspected places. This may prove to be difficult to do because of the moving suspension. I even use a doctor's stethoscope, which may be easier with the moving suspension. I wish you luck!

Thanks Bill. Someone suggested I wrap the bushings (where they meet the sway bar) with teflon tape. Which I did with no effect. Well. I'll keep after it.:)

Inspect the A-arms, you may have a shot bushing there.

Good luck!

Hi All,
Thanks for all the tips and tricks. I've tried them all. I've been away or I'd have tried them sooner. I WD40'd pretty much the entire front end. I silicone sprayed it as well. I wrapped the sway bar bushings with teflon tape. :banghead:
I took her to Corvettes Unlimited. "It's the sway bar" he said. I told him what I'd done. He said they use a teflon spray. It made the squeaking somewhat quieter but it's still there. She goes back for a wheel alignment next week and they are going to take another look. I'll let you know how it works out.

What a beautiful Vette!!

Let us hear how it turns out!

Test that theory by removing the end links and going for a test drive. Teflon tape works Very well indeed.

CYa!

She's back from Corvettes Unlimited any no more squeaks.;worship Some white grease in the spring pockets and she's quiet as a mouse. I went back and forth over the speed bumps in the parking lot this morning and nary a sound:D They also did a wheel alignment and she rides like a new car. So now I'm going to get new tires to replace the unevenly worn ones I'm riding on now (225/70/R15s). Any suggestions? I like big tires with white letters.
