When I put the key in and give it a turn I am increasingly getting a loud click. The ignition switch appears loose and with a bit of manipulation and trial and error I usualy can get a connection, and the engine fires right up.

Has anyone had this problem; I need suggestions fast. Im planning on driving it to Indy this fri for the F1 race.

if the click sound is coming from in the steering colum area.. sounds like possibly the lock cyclender needs to be replaced..

If the click sound is coming from the engine compartment then, probably the starter is about to take a dump...

the lock cylender is very loose (maybe this is normal and i am only now taking notice) and when i turn it, and get a no start condition the click comes from the engine area. but with only a bit of key manipulation and strategic pressure i can get a connection in the lock cylender.

What will it cost if i go for a new lock cylender?

Lock cyclender I am not shure I forget what year yours is but I would guess under a hundred and less without VATS.. but the click sound under the hood is the starter if it clicks and does not start the starter solenoid is probably on it's way out that is.. if it is getting enough power too it.. now as far as I know the lock cyclender except for the vettes with the VATS (chip in the key) they do not have any electrilcal connections to them the lock cyclender is basically a lock and then there is a mechanical connection to an actual ignition switch where all the wiring is.

it sounds like you may have 2 problems possibly.. a starter on its way out and and lock cyclender that is loose and possible ready to jam on you..

but I can't be 100% shure because it's hard to diagnose a car from the internet..

Update, it was in fact the starter, and 397.17 later it's like new again. Now im off to Indianapolis Motor speedway for the USGP. Hope they did a good job!

Thanks all for your input it meant much.
