I start the car in the morning and it seems to run fine. I drive for a few miles, When I shut the car off and go in the store. When I come out it starts fine but I put it in gear and try to take off it just dies. it acts like it trying to flood out. It always after it warm. I have alway had to hold the gas wide open to start. Do you think the map sensor is going bad. thanks

I moved this to Technical in hopes of someone seeing it and having an answer for you. :CAC

You need to check for codes. You should never have needed to have wide open throttle to start. You may have more than one problem.
:w

Well so far I got the timing set. I have replace the plugs, ignition module, cap and rotor. Runs fine until it gets up to temp. Then it runs so rich it stumbles and cuts out. Some times you can't even get it to move without it dying when you give it gas. it blows the blackest smoke out when its warmed up and you try to give it throttle. It's runs very very rich. I going to have new exhaust put on it tuesday. I do not get any codes at all. I was getting a code 42. By the book it says it either the ignition module or the ecm. So thats when I replaced the ignition module. So now I'm lost. I have read several threads on rich conditions. Some threads say it a o2 sensor. some threads it can be the computer. Some say that its can be the temp sensor. I not sure what to buy and try next. The o2 or get another ecm.

For the O2 sensor to cause it to run that rich I would think it would throw a code.

I just got new temp sensor and will post finding tomorrow. hope this works. thanks

O2 sensors are cheaper than ECM's. They should be replaced every 30,000 miles or so just as a preventative measure anyway.

hey Moonunit, Where can I get a gauge or a testing gauge.

I believe it was the temp sensor. It's 8:30 at night and about 75 outside right now. I will drive tomorrow when it is 90 out and see what my results are. Thanks everyone, I wouldn't never figure it out without the forums.

Dude,
I posted with this same problem. It is as if the ASM is on. She will choke out. I have replaced the tranny fluid, flushed the radiator and installed a K&N since and it doesn't do it anymore. While I don't think they really had anything to do with resolving the problem you never know. Besides doing all your regular maintenance stuff before you try to resolve a problem doesn't hurt. It is not like your wasting money changing stuff that doesn't need to be changed.

Man, guys. I took for a ride today and it ran just awsome. Car runs perfect. After all that, just to find out that it was a $7 temp sensor. So I treated her to a new exhaust and she sounds awsome. I want to thank all of you for the help and the the forum for having so many people to help. I would have spent a hell of alot of $$$ without the forums. Thanks.

Good to hear positive results. Great to hear you're not letting the grass grow under your feet before you got it fixed. Drive, man, drive!
