:mad My 87 Coupe was working fine until this Saturday. When I start it cold the RPM's go up to 900-1000 for about a minute then go down to 600-700. It stays at this engine speed for the whole day, which is fine. This Saturday when I started it to go on a 200 mile+ trip, the engine started and quickly died. When I restarted it, the idle speed was 500 RPM's, went to 400 and died again. So I turned in the idle control screw located on the driver's side of the throttle body until the engine was at an 600-700 RPM idle. On sunday, Monday and today I had to do it again because the engine went down to 500 RPMs and then died. The spark plugs have less than a month (Bosch 4+), the wires are good, the fuel filter is 1 year old, the electrical system was checked and is OK. Where else can I check to find the problem? Thank you.

Have you checked your fuel pressure. Sounds like you are running out of gas. Either your filter is plugging or your pump is failing. That's just an opinion and you know what they say about that.:eyerole

Another lead.

If you have an Idle Air Control on yours, check that out.....
seems they are prone to sticking when they get carboned up and will cause symptoms similar to what you're mentioning.
If this is the cause, it can sometimes temporarily be corrected by starting the car .. holding the throttle at about 900 rpm .. then turning the key off and stopping the engine .. wait about 15 to 30 seconds and restart. If all's well, (temporarily, cause things don't fix themselves usually) it is likely the IAC.
You never know!!

I had a similar problem with my '88. I made the same adjustments that you have with the same results. I bought a new IAC but couldn't get the old one out. I had the dealer change it and it solved my problem.

Good luck.
