Hey all!

Finally registered for CAC! Midyear has been buggin' me for the last couple of months... He knows me and my vette better than anyone. I've been a regular guest to this forum for a while. I know a few of you guys already... bluestripe, greyghost, Ihate2lose. Looking forward to seeing you guys at BG and Carlisle.

Any one heard of/tried High Intensity Discharge headlight conversions for older cars? I remember seeing an ad somewhere for it.

P.S. - I'm the one who fragged his water pump/fan/radiator/shroud at Carlisle during the parade. You might have seen/helped me repair on the show field! Maybe I'll watch the tach next time I do a burnout! :( :bu

If you want the brightest you can get, then use a set of aircraft landing lights Number 4537 Wagner or any other name brand in the inside light housing. Leave the outsides alone as the ACL`s are two wire and will only fit the inside bright. Just by using two you can almost see the Florida line. The light switch of a Vette should be able to handle the load. It does in mine.:upthumbs :m

Welcome to the forum. Its about time you showed up.

I am going to get a set of those lamps tomorow for my 66 and hope it does not burn out the switch.Good luck in your search .I had saved a link to hid system I plan on using one in the C1 I plan on building but the link is not longer valid.

SORRY I have to resize it

I havn`t been far away! Nothing has interested me lately.:gap :bar :m ;LOL

Midyrcoupe,

Welcome aboard. Glad you could join us.

Larry (IH2LOSE).....that photo is so large I about fell off the side of my chair trying to see it all.

You should see it on my 21" monitor!!! ;LOL

I ran landing lights in my '67 and they are in my '59 also (haven't seen road time yet). In the '67 they would last for about 10 minutes before the system overloaded and the breaker popped. Took about another 10 minutes for them to come back on. You really need to wire in a relay to power up these babys.

There is another thread here someplace on this subject. Others have tried it and ended up using a relay too.

But bright?? Oh man!! :eek

Instant daylight, plus no one can ever figure them out. They don`t know what they are.

The 4537's are very bright but I belive they're illegal in some areas. We used to sell quite a few to truckers. I was told that border crossing guards would simply give 'em a whack and break 'em if they noticed you were running them. This is going back about 20 years tho. Maybe I'll get a set and try 'em out, the old eyes aren't what they used to be.

Well I got them had to order them in to my local auto parts store,I do not think the wiring to the head light can handel the amp draw.I am not going to keep them in my vette.I am going to install them in my cady for sure,(I dont mind cutting that one up.

Any body need help with the relays it sound hard but its not they sell them as a kit for installing driving lights. You just bring a heavey line from the battery thru the load side of the realy then out to the light.then you just take the old head light lead and bring it to the coil side of the relay to power up the relay, when the coil of the relay gets power it closes and your light are on.

DONT JUMP OUT THE BREAKER it is protecting the wires

ps iron cross that was an excellent recomendation thanks again

Any body else have some neet tricks they want to share?
IH2LOSE, All my 4 lite vettes, 62, 63, and 68 Vettes do not have any problems. The stock headlight switch for the Vette can handle the power. But if you install them in the Caddie, watch, you`ll be back for two more for the Vette.;LOL ;LOL :Steer :m

Ouch!

I found a couple of vendors for sealed beam to Xenon HID conversion lamps... $500 - $600!

Midyear's right. I don't drive the car enough at night to justify that!

Thanks for the replies!
