High Pitched Screaming Sound From Engine Somewhere

Heidi that thing is called a PCV valve!! ;LOL;LOL ;LOL
GM Junkie does it again!... PCV, Positive Crankcase Ventilation. I knew that.
Heidi ;)

Pete, you flirt, you! :L

Don't worry, my "girlie" explanations won't be going away anytime soon. :o
I constantly make Kenny laugh with my descriptions and names for things. Example: the garage air compressor has several things that operate with the hose attachment, I use the air blower to clean off my vaccum and I call it the "Schhhttt-schhhtt-thing" because that is what it sounds like when I use it to blow off the dust.
All of our Doctors are listed under D in the address book for easy reference. At least for me...I think I have a bit of Radar O'Reilly in my filing system. Keeps things interesting, anyway.... :D

Heidi,

You can tell Kenny that I'm not flirting.
After working for 20 years with women PHD's I just like the sound of low tech.:L

I think you have a good command of Vette technology. After all, you described the thing on the hose between the valve cover and the carb, not the thing between the long tub thing and the silver thing in the middle of the top thing.;)

Ack!! My wife does that too!! I went looking for a receipt for my truck. I looked under "D" for Dodge (nope) under "V" for vehicles (nope) under "C" for cars (nope) under "T" for truck (nope).... Finally, I gave up.

She pulls it from "M" for Mac... :eyerole

Slight Update here...Well, after driving for a few more miles the sound came back...GRRR.

No big deal though, as I thought (like you said) maybe it's just the gasket. So, I was lucky enough to have a parts place around the corner from me that had a complete Holley TricKit for only $30.

Turns out, as I was removing the choke and 'the other thingy to left of it', I was able to finally figure out that it was the main gasket that was causing the sound. So, for now, I just tweaked the 4 bolts around the carb, and heard the sound go away.

Things have been fine now for over 20 miles, which is great. And now I have the rebuild kit for when that time comes.

Come On GMJUNKIE...just 1 picture?!?! heheh

Sounds like a gasket on your choke or your carb body.

Milkin machine,,;LOL

Yay! I win! You win! Everrybody wins!
It should run a little different now too.

Heheh...yes wishyouwerehere82, you win too!!! :-)

What's weird is why tightening those screws made the sound go away the first time. Maybe by tightening the screws I put enough pressure on the other gasket to make it seal a little more again.

As far as running different...I think it does, although, I'm not sure whether it's just my mind or reality. It does feel stronger to me. And, the transmission seemed to shift better. I don't think it should really have anything to do with it. My tranny doesn't have the lockup cause no computer, and it has a hard time making up it's mind during light/part throttle as to which gear it wants to be in.

Like I said, it could just be my mind, but I could swear that it wasn't searching as much, and also downshifted better automatically without me manual shifting.

Sorry so long-winded.

A loose carb gasket would increase your Air/Fuel ratio and decrease your intake vacuum, causing lower power and cause your transmission to shift sluggish. The shift points are controlled by your computer based on speed and throttle position. The lean mixture would cause you to open the throttle more to deliver more power which would delay your shift points.

My brother once had a '68 Dodge Charger with a Holley on it and the throttle plate(base plate of the carb)developed a crack in it and it too made one hell of a shrill sound while the engine was running. Other people too thought it was a spun bearing til I saw the crack.

Most of my High Ptich Screaming quits when the passenger gets out of the car. What do you think could be wrong!!!;)
