OLDGOAT

Being an oldgoat has advantages. Not many-but a few. One is being able to remember first hand Corvettes of many years ago. To get an idea how amazing the new C6 actually is consider the king in 1967....the 435 hp 427 'vette rocket sled.
As I sit here I'm holding my copy of the May 1967 Hot Rod magazine. I was but a lad then but a car loving one. This issue showcased the new 435 hp 427 corvette. This fire breather did 0-60 in only 5.5 seconds. Less than 6 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!! The quarter mile is given as 13.8 at 108. Now to be fair understand that the tires on this beast were not just inadequate but a joke.
Compare this to the C6 Z51. The most recent review I've read says 4.1 0-60 and 12.6 @114. Are we lucky today or what?
The 1967 weighed only 52 lbs more than the '06 at 3340 ( of course forget the AC on this ride ). It was .7" higher and .5" longer so the external dimensions were nearly identical except for width where the C6 is 3 full inches wider. In wheelbase, however, the C6 is 7.7" wider.
Both front and real brake rotors on the '67 were 11.75". Of course, even the base C6 beats this and the Z51 is considerably better.
Styling? Well, being an oldgoat I am partial to the '67 but the C6 is fantastic just the same!
Due to health concerns the oldgoat will probably never own a C6. He's no poser though and will honestly admit this sad fact. So to all of you who will walk up to a C6 and know that it's yours consider that you own a car that beats the legendary "435". Did I mention that the C6 turns in this supercar performance at about 2.5 times the gas mileage of the 435?
Of course, if you're one of the few real lucky folks who can afford ( and handle ) a new Z06.....well, words escape me to describe what that will be like.
On this Veteran's day may I say THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! Thank you all you vets who served or are serving. The oldgoat tried to serve but his health was poor even years ago and he was rejected. Now that I am so much older than those fighting and dying for us all I have only admiration and respect in my heart.
