Okay, I just replaced the cross-cable between the two hood latches.

Random question: do I adjust it to be a dead-on fit, or do I go one notch tighter, so it's under a small amount of tension?

Thanks,
Joe

Heres a shot of mine....

I will check the tension when i get off work today and post for ya.Im pretty sure mine is a little slacked.

(Mine is a '73...may be a slight diffrence from your '79)

Thanks. Not sure if the '73 info will translate, since mine has the latches as part of the car, not part of the hood, but more info is always better.

Thanks,
Joe

Mine is slightly slack......I don't thing it should have any tension on it.

Maineshark,

I replaced mine on my '81 a few months ago and I was able to set it without any appreciable slack. When you get the new cable installed, leave the hood open and use a screw driver to "shut" the latches. Check for simultaneous release (or as close as you can get it) when you pull the inside handle. That's all it should take. Adjust to the next available hole in the tab based on whether the passenger side opens early or late. Leaving the hood up makes the whole evolution that much easier. Good luck.
