Hi all - this is my first post so please be kind:) I have a '78 L82 which I've owned for about 18 months. Great fun car despite things that keep falling off or failing. I have a few questions.

1. One of the things that crapped out a few weeks ago was the indicator switch ... when I went to indicate to the right the horn would beep (really ... not kidding). Anyway, I took the steering wheel off and found the cause - the plastic washer/insulator that keeps the horn button spring from earthing on the steering column was disintegrating (age I guess) and fell apart as I was removing it. Little bits were floating among the indicator mechanism. So now my rght indicator works again but (I removed the horn wiring) the horn doesn't. Can someone tell me where i would find the part number I need to replace that plastic washer thingy and where I would be able to buy it from. I have catalogs from Ecklers and Riks but they don't list this part.

2. The car has about 80,000 genuine miles on it (was a one owner when I bought it). I have heard that now is about the time when the rear wheel bearings tend to go. Should I do some preventative maintenance and replace them? How much does it usually cost to have someone do that?

3. I am going back to Australia later this year (currently in Calif) and want to take the car home with me. I will need to do a steering conversion to be legal there (ie. LHD to RHD). There are a few places that do this commercially, but I'd like to try it myself. Has anyone got any experience in doing this that they would like to share?

Thanks in advance - sorry for the long post.

Welcome to the forum.I recently did some work on a 74 that needed some work on the steering column and I found the best place for horn button and steering column parts was Corvette America. They also have some detailed diagrams on there website to help you out .:w

I haven't gotten Corvette America yet, but Mid-America also has a nice diagram with all parts and fittings too. If you just call MAD then they will send you a magazine free of charge.
