Hot wire help??????????

I seem to be unable to find a hot wire that is hot all the time so l can hook up daytime driving lights. Even went to a car shop to pick up a device that will tell me if it's hot or not. Still no good!

It has to be me, a little mental.

Last week when my vette was in for an oil change at my dealer l asked for a tech to find a hot wire and then mark it. He put a piece of blue tape around a black wire that went to a ground. Now l'm not a rocket scientist but any wire that is used for a ground has to be negative, yes.

Where can l get a wire diagram for my 96 or even yet should l just bring it to a car radio store and ask them to put it in or find an electrical car shop and let them do it.

Alan - it would be better to tap the fuse panel and run the wire out through the gromet on the drivers side near the battery.(I have shot of where it is under my simple C4 mods link from my website, in the fan switch sequence)

Finding a hot lead under the hood is not a big deal, but you may not know its capacity, slight voltage variations in certain circuits (like any extra current draw) can cause issues.

Or if you want to drive out to Staten Island.............


(PS - the harness for the underhood lights was always hot in my 95, the connector was located in the very front to the left of a plastic vaccume ball.)

Hey Alan my friend, why are you so upset not finding a hot wire. Let's see... Open the hood and start touching all of the wires you see laying around. Make sure you have bare hands doing that. The hot wires are the ones that will make you feel hot; simple as that. Since they are all direct current wires the voltage will not shake you.

If you want to make damn sure that the wire is hot touch it with your tounge. You will have this funny feeling if the wire is hot. It is a slight burning / vibrating feeling on your tongue and here is the hot wire for you dude...

Here in the States we are a little more advanced in the tech arena. We would normally ask our wives to test the wires!

What you really want is a wire that is hot when the ignition is switched on. If you used a wire that was hot all the time, you would need a switch to control the lights.

Under the front part of the center console box, there should be a set of wires with a connector. Pull the two screws at the forward portion of the console box behind the coin holder, the single screw in the forward cup holder and gently lift the console. Pull the wire loom out from under the coin holder.

This loom has 3 wires; the black one is ground, the orange wire is hot all the time and the pink wire is switched with the ignition switch. The hot leads should be able to handle up to 15amps
