i want to let outside air in without using the ac, and without opening a window on my 90. when the outside air is cool, it would be nice to let it in w/o hearing window air noise. any ideas of settings that would work? thanks
joe

What system do you have? C60 or C68? With the standard system, you should be able to just set the upper control lever to one of the heating air outlet positions and set the temperature level to cool and turn the fan to the desired speed.

With the Climate Control, push a button for one of the outlet positions and set a fan speed and temp control to wherever.

fresh air intake

hi, i looked at the hatch vent but it says you cannot drive w all of the windows up and the roof on. what i want to accomplish is to allow fresh air in the front of the car w/o opening a window. seems it should be possible to get outside cool air inside w/o using a/c. it would be nice to get outside air flowing in a bi level direction. thanks joe

That's a legal disclaimer for them. I run with the latch vent on, windows closed and the heater on vent. I do not notice any exhaust gas entering the car. This is also good feature if you have to park and leave your car in the sun. The alarm is still active.

i was trying to do the same also. i have the automatic system and it is a pain when you just want vent and not have the a/c come on or the fans. i have tried having the temp set higher but it still seems that the a/c still cycles. i would also like to know a way of avoiding this.

You want air to enter but not have the vent fans blowing ?

I don't think you can do this with any car can you ? You might be able to select the vent position you want but nothing will come out until you turn the fan on.

In my truck I can set the dash vents to blow outside air on me and as long as I don't "turn on" the AC then it just blows outside air in my face. I hate driving on the highway with the windows open so I do this all the time.

getting fresh air through the vents

it is okay if the fan is on. all i want to do is get outside fresh air without the ac on. i do this all the time with my other cars and pickups. you set it to vent and then set the fan to whatever speed you want. i am not sure if this can be done with my 90 vette. what do you think? thanks joe

so then are you saying that you can get fresh air to enter the heating cooling system? and then it exhausts out of the hatch? all i am interested in getting is fresh air without the ac on

If you have the electronic system? The button below the fan speed down button shud give you outside air. It's the one wiith the arrow pointing to the little man's head.

yeah thats what i want also, i want fresh air to come in the vehicle without the a/c on and with out the aux fan for the a/c also. with my other vehicles i set it to cold and have the vent on so that way the a/c is not on and i am not freezing also. thanks for any help

I'm not being a smarty but have you read the owner's manual? Surely you can vent air in w/o AC.

ill have to look for that button. is it for the direction of the air?

hey, when all else fails look at the directions right. i will look at the manual to see.
thanks

I have a 91 with the automatic climate control system. Took me a while to figure out because the owner's manual didn't exactly point this out clearly.

The only way in which you can get fresh air by having the fan blow it in, but without having the AC come on, is by using the airflow button with the pictogram of a person sitting and the arrow pointing at the person's face. Not the buttons with the arrows pointing at the person's feet, nor defog, nor bi-level, nor any combination. It only works with the button with the arrow pointing at the person's face.

Now to get the auto-climate control to do this, you must first turn it off. Then, push the button with the correct pictogram. This should immediately turn on the fan at full blast. Now you can turn down the fan speed, and also adjust the temp to heat. Air from the outside will now be brought inside your car. But it will not cool it as the A/C compressor is not on.

If you don't follow the above button pushing sequence, the auto-climate control will revert to auto and the A/C will cycle on/off.

On my '89 we have a button called "Econo". Similar to the one described by Roque, I'm sure. When pushed, the actuator opens up the vent on the passenger side of the car, letting fresh air in. I have a choise of fresh air w/ac, fresh air w/heat or just fresh air. Here's the trick. When I set the temp at 72 or below, the a/c will come on, allowing fresh air w/ac. When I set the temp at 76 or above, the heat comes on w/fresh air. When I set the temp to 75-73, nothing comes on except the fan and fresh air being blown into the car. You might try playing with your temp settings and see if they incorporated the same with yours.

Ok, I gotta be missing something here. In my 90 w/climate control,I ALWAYS run the system on AUTO.I just set the temp. where I want it, and forget it. Now when its cold outside, the heat comes on, when its hot outside, the A/C comeson.I know this sounds simple but, the SYSTEM takes care of WHATEVER NEEDS TO BE DONE. If its cool outside, but you still want cool air inside the car, chooseAUTO 68 degrees sit back and enjoy the ride. I think that most of the time if its cool out side the A/C wont run!!!! Good Luck !!!! Paul:confused
