this is a 1977, we are removing the rear differental cover on the rear axle housing and we have all the bolts free, but can't get the cross member off the frame. We took the two bolts off (one on each end) and whacked it with a rubber hammer. The front part of the diffrerental moved and we drained the oil, but we can't figure out what the trick is to get the cross member down.

Anyone?????

I agree.. just put longer bolts in so when you pry on it, it wont drop.

I think the 2 bolts that you described ? on the frame ? they have big rubber shimms that hold them in place and reduce vibrations, they sometimes get a little rust in there so dont be to cautious?, from where you are at, surport the diff. and use a pry bar.. WD-40 and work it loose, it will break free soon.
mine didnt have too much rust but did take some playing to get free. this isnt a big problem,
just looks that way when yr under the car and saying what the F&*$ ? lol
just Hammer away in the right places, remember to take a break and have a beer then after 20 Mins restart again,
been there doon that, many many of times, and still lots many more times to go, have fun
