How Do You Tell If Your Rim Is Bent

Hello Friends,

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TELL IF YOU HAVE A BENT RIM, THAT MAY BE THE CULPRIT FOR CUPPING ONE TIRE? The Goodyear Dealer said he could tell from the balancing machine and that sounds good to me! Any of you wheel experts know a better way!

You have to check both the lateral (side - to - side) and vertical (up and down) run-out while the wheel is slowly turning. I believe that this can be done with the wheel mounted to the axle.

Be sure to measure the lateral run-out of the wheel and not the tire.
