Did you know its a 502?

All cars depreciate in value the moment the papers are signed and they're driven off the lot. But by Golly the Corvette does it in style!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I get an AMEN brothers and sisters??????????

;LOL ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

Thanks for removing the offensive reference, Patrick. I wouldn't respond to the post last night when I first read it because of it.

I am one of the vette owners who is glad c 5's have gotten less expensive.

I am very happy with my 98. For my purchase price it is the most performance at the least cost I could find. Naturally things always go down after I buy something. It's always been that way from computers to grocerys. They are always on sale or something the next week. One of Murphys Laws I guess. Play with your toys and have fun. Jay

Hmm... this guy gets around.

As for resale value, I couldn't care less. My '04 coupe is less than a year old, and I've already done all the "easy" stuff (intake, exhaust, tune). I was allowing myself a year (to determine if the car was gonna be a maintenance problem) before tearing into the engine internals - 2.5 months to go, and no problems yet!

Not to worry, friends; the C5 will begin appreciating in value due to the fact that they are not as mass produced in the numbers as say a run of the mill Chevy. I know that the C5 had a tremendous run for 8 years, but as younger( or older) prospective buyers begin to realize what a gem the C5 is compared to performance, etc; then demand for them will increase the price. This has been the case for most limited production cars, the Yugo not withstanding. I don't really believe that some C5 owners really realize or appreciate the uniqeness of the C5. That is certainly not the case with the great people who frequent this forum. And for those of us who have had previous year/s Corvettes; we only realize that they are only getting better! Drive and enjoy.

Its like the commercial -price of car $xxxxx.xx
Price of Permagrin - priceless

Lets do the Math

An assumption gone bad
I love people that see something and make assuptions that are incorrect. Like how do you know what the guy paid for the C5?

I bought a new C5 Convertible in Sept 2004 and paid 45000 for it. According to KBB retail is 47000, now that means I have 2k more value that I paid. Lets see you do that with any other car.

I have owned 5 Corvettes and they have been the cheapest cars I have ever owned. The last one (95 Vert) I bought for 28K, drove it 2 years and sold it for 27K while it was still on Jack stands from winter storage. The guy bought it without driving it!

I have a 1999 Tahoe that I paid 34K for and it's now worth 8K

You do the math

I was able to buy the exact car I wanted in June 2004 at dealer invoice less a $5,000 factory discount, my distant second choice was a C6 convertible that wouldn't be available for 9 months and would cost approximately $20,000 more. Buying the 2004 C5 was a no brainer.

My prior Vette was a 1977 - paid $8,400 in 1981 (Paid a lot because it was a 4 speed and awesome condition.). Sold it in 1988 for $6,800. I used it as my daily driver. Needed paint when I sold it. Lost $1,600 overall. (Wish I kept it.)

My wife's 1976 Corvette automatic was bought in 1984 for $7,000 sold in 1986 for $7,200. It was a garage queen so she didn't put too many miles on it. Gained $200.

Paid mid 30s for my 2001 in late 2002. Maybe the market is $26-28K now (or maybe more because it is a 6 speed and rare color). It dropped $10+ grand before I bought it (1st year) and another $10 grand since I've owned it (2.5 years). It has lost about half of its original sticker value. Not bad compared to other cars but financially speaking it is not a good investment just a pretty good purchase. Ten years from now? Who knows? Twenty years, maybe? Thirty years? Now we're talking about a good investment.

All in all it still looks and feels like a million bucks to me. No regrets here.

After 30 odd years of Corvette ownership I am probably a few grand ahead and remember I gave the 82 to my son so there was a large hole to fill. I am surrounded by exotic cars everyday and not one of them can hold its value like a Vette. There are 3 BMW 850s in today’s paper for $8000 or less. The 850csi sold new for $82K…I know, I bought one in 1992.

But forget the math. Vettes aren’t about math. When the garage had the 850csi ($82000) and the 93 Vette ($47000 in Euro-land) 100% of the people who walked by went to look at the Vette first. Never once did I look into the garage and think ¨hey, I own a BMW850¨ but every time I saw the Vette I got a rush thinking ¨that is my Vette…I really own a Corvette.¨

Maybe that is what it is about the Corvette. After owning 5 and leasing 1 I still get that rush. I got it the first time I drove one. I got it in the ´60. I got it everyday when I was restoring the ´63. I got it double when I gave the ´82 to my son. Seeing my redheaded girlfriend driving the color matching 93 did it for me in a big way and now romping around in Thunder with his ever willingness to kick ass on any Euro-trash that crosses his path takes me back to my youth.

Corvettes may depreciate but Corvette owners Appreciate. We Appreciate the one and only American Sports Car.:lou:w

Spanishvetts' post got me all choked up. Well said. I still go down to my garage at night just to look at my Corvette. The thrill never wears off.
