Re: 89x2 who did your chip ?

who did your chip, as there are many people out there that advertise that they do them

Performance Resource - out of New Jersey. Ad said up to 7 tenths in the Quarter reduction... Took 1/2 a second off - I was satisfied:)
I had initally bought a different chip for my T/A and it didn't do JACK!!! Sent it back 3 times w/ promises... That's something I did not have to do w/ the Performance Resource chip :beer

Boy, 89x2 your times encourage me to do similar things to my 89 vert. I have an almost identical car with the 2:59's. I have never run it on the track assuming it was slow with that tall rear end. I guess I should give it a go. I also have that trusty 700R4 that shifts great. I put a 160 degree thermostat in with the Hypertech stage II. Everything else is bone stock.

Hey 89x2,

When you run the quarter, how do you handle the launch? I assume you power brake and load the converter and then let it romp. Is that correct? What RPM do you use? Do you let it shift auto or do you manually shift it?

Radar :beer :s

THanks :) I do "load" it and launch at somewhere around 1600 if I recall :D

I did put a lower temp T.stat when I did the chip and have been really happy w/ the chip I have as I tried another that didnt do squat :(
As far as shifting, I let the trans wind out on it's own and it shifts at about 5600 +/- while leaving it in the big D Drive

it shifts at 5600 rpm in D? did the chip change the shift at all? mine shifts from 4600-4800 i manual shift it at the track at 4900 while the tranny will shift at 5000 (100 rpm reaction from me to the tranny) it is my understanding the stock TPI drops off after 4800 rpm how can you go faster by shifting at 5600?

I'll throw my french fry into the basket just for comparison. My completely showroom stock 1991 auto trans 2.59 geared vette ran a 13.8@98mph in the 1/4. I don't have the dyno slip in front of me but I remember it being something like 213hp/316torq at the wheels. I would load up the converter at the line and manually shift.

I took a stock 1989 conv with a 6 speed tranny, 3.54 rear, and added a K&N air filter with open face plate, Walker SS Ultraflo mufflers with new rear Y-pipe with pressure balance cross tube, and Performance chip for the ECM( I have a hypertech street runner which came with the car and a custom chip from Jeff). Can anyone tell me what the HP and torque increase is with this setup?

I'm guessing this is adding maybe 20-25 HP.

I am pretty sure it was that high, I played w/ the detent for awhile and it did help some - I will check next time I take her out...
It has been awhile since I romped on her and with the snow :( who knows
I know it was higher than 46-48 though...

cool thanks 89

i never even smacked the rev limiter on my 87 i think i only shifted at 5500 once. when i found out by the feel of the drop off and here verifying it that after 4800 rpm you don't make any more HP i shift now at 5000 tops. just a bit higher than 4800 so when it does shift it comes into a sweeter sweet spot on the torque curve.

One of the most significant gains listed at c4vettes,com had to do with removing the screens in front/back of the MAF. Over 10 HP! Check it out, I didn't do it but suspect it was done before I bought the car as all other quickie mods were done. He says 75-85HP when done these quick mods!

My 2 cents worth. I have a stock 87 Coupe. Put in a KN filter with cut lid, Hypertech thermomaster chip, 160 degree stat, bypassed throttle body coolant, installed a manual fan switch and removed the pre-cats. Stock-type aftermarket mufflers. No dyno numbers but with the 3.07 rear end and auto trans (stock) I get a very nice "seat of the pants" acceleration. I don't race the car at the drag strip so I don't have the numbers. But in the stop-light grand prix, I have not found a ricer that will beat me from stop light to stop light. As for 5.0 liter Mustangs, I've creamed a couple but don't want to mess around with the "police interceptor" Mustangs and Camaros our Police Department have. They are mean s.o.b.'s:D :L

1990 Vette >>

I have a friend with a basically stock 1990 vette (auto) that was rated at 245HP/350ftlbs from the factory. He runs 13.4-13.5 @ 100-103MPH. (his 60' times are high 1.8's to low 1.9's with drag radials)

His engine is mostly stock, except he has a performance chip, shift kit, K&N, flowmaster exhaust, and 1.6:1 roller rockers. But the engine itself internally is stock, including the throttle body and runners.

The L-98 has potential if you do it right.

DAYUM!:upthumbs Wow Eagle, that's some good shoppin' you done!

Another place to look are swap meets and flea markets. My father got an Edelbrock Peformer intake manifold for $40.

Hi: My understanding is that beginning around 1971 car manufacturers listed the hp at the rear wheels, no longer at the crank.
