HVAC Starts By ITSELF!!!! It's Posessed???

Hi Guy's, I need Help........ 97 vette, 6 speed Dual climate control. The car will sit for 5 to 10 minutes and then all of a sudden the climate control blower starts!!!!! BUT... the car is turned off!!!!
It's like something out of a bad horror Flick!!!!
Any idea's

Sounds like a short in the wiring or chip, take it to the dealership and let them check the codes.

Is the car named Christine?

Sounds like the BCM but could be anything, you have to take it in.

By chance has any water, coffee or other wet substance hit the controls. Dry and allow dry completely the climate controls. It should work correctly afterwards.

Go to the Tech Center above, then the Knowledgebase, then the 1997 - 2004 Corvette section, then the A/C sub-section. You will see a TSB that applies to 1997 C5's with the problem you describe. It also has the "fix". Good luck.

There is a technical service bulletin (www.alldata.com) from GM that addresses the mildew smell on the C5's HVAC system. The fix is to install a kit that runs the blower for a few minutes at a time for 2 to 3 hours to dry out the evaporator in the dash, to prevent mildew.


If this was install in your car, it explains why it's coming on.
