After driving on them for over a year, I decided to try a different tire.
The redline radials looked great, but felt "squirrelly" on the road.
They were all over the place and the car just didn't feel good with them on.

I researched Touring tires on Tirerack.com and found that one of top five tires out of 37 found is the Khumo A/S 795.
These tires have a 3/4" white stripe and look great on my coupe.
I put them on last Friday and then took a 100+ mile trip to a corvette show in Jupiter Florida the next day.
What a pleasure these tires are! The car has been transformed!
The ride is much smoother, bumps are not so "bumpy",
and the cornering is excellent! The difference is night and day!

While the redlines offered me the old nostalgic look, the improved ride and handling performance of the Khumos makes them well worthwhile.
I drive my car..and the ride is more important to me.

Oh, by the way, I did leave out a small detail. I had the tires Fedexed to my home in two days.
The delivered-to-my-door-cost for the four tires? $215.90.
They cost $38.00/tire!!

Beats the heck out of $1200 for a set of Yoko runflats for my C5!!

Ok, I'm outta material..

:w

not suprised about the improvement. I wanted both (good, current radial tire technology AND Goldlines) so I had DiamondBack Tire put a goldline on "new" radials that I selected. Handles great, looks great.

O.K., so where do you get Diamondback and do they do a redline? I have a 67 with Coker redlines and I gotta agree, they act like banana peels.

Dennis,

You probably walked past Diamond Back at Carlisle, they were on row P, yes they make a redline and it says Firestone even on it :D I also hated the ride on the Coker and ordered a set of the redlines at Carlisle.

I didn't make spring carlisle, but I will make summer and corvette carlisle and I won't walk past them again!///thanks for all the help guys..:beer

DiamondBack, unlike Coker, does not just "make" a redline and a Goldline tire, they will apply a redline, goldline or even a blue line to most any tire (such as a 2004 radial) you direct them to use (they may be scalling back on that though, saw one poster mention that DB was advising of certain tires they won't redline or goldline, poss. due to chronic out of round issues with certain tires). When so doing, DB through vulcanization of the sidewall on the 2004 tire, leavies a rather period-correct looking smooth face on the outside. For instance, my Firetstone Indy 500 Firehawks HAD raised white letters and all sorts of other info on the sidewall BEFORE DB had their way with it, it's all gone now.

Jack,

That's great information!

Thank you for posting it.

Regards,
Pedro

And it so happens that my DB tires showed up today. If anyone needs a pic or wants me to post it let me know.

Allright Tom,

Twist my arm...I would like to see your DB tires.

By the way, I spoke with Bill at DB tires today. He seems like a real nice guy,
and said that they can put a redline or goldline on just about any tire.
I may take him up on that.:D

Pedro, I will get a pic posted later today either plain, or mounted :D I am going to try to talk my friend into mounting them for me today.
