Damn thing hurt too.....lol

Whats up with the hood support rod

When I first got the car last week, it always seemed to work fine (locking open when the hood was raised far enough)

Yesterday i had my skinny california butt stretched across the intake area(detailing some dull chrome pieces) and the hood slammed down and bit me in the A$$.

I was flat across the engine bay legs sticking out, flopping in the breeze, and wiggling like a bug on Raid, trying to get my feet back on the ground so i could get the hood out of the crack of my A$$

I'm glad the engine was cold or I would have an intercooler waffle print across my forehead.....explain that to your neighbors....lol

My wife heard the commotion and performed an anal-ectomy and lifted the hood back up so I could slither away........

Is there a spring somewhere that puts the support rod into a lock out position, or do these damn cars have a mind of their own and wait for you to let your guard down?

Later,

Ray

Geez louise!! Glad you weren't hurt! The hood is pretty heavy. Earlier supports have a button that sticks in a hole, sort of like an umbrella. Later supports do this weird thing where they rotate around a bit so they can't retract. I'm not sure which the 1990 is.

I'm pretty sure the switched over to the later style in 88 or 89, but I'm not sure.

Good to hear you weren't seriously hurt, like aurora said, those things are heavy and can come down with some force -- count yourself lucky :beer

Ouch! All I can picture is someone with the hood closed on them and their legs flaling around. But seriously glad you were not seriously injured. the stock hoods are HEAVY!

Ouch! :eek

when the hood goes up, the prop at full extension will consist of two parts - as it extended, you should have heard the spring pop and push it over - if not, you coulld have a weak spring - change was in 1988 for the new style...

Hope this helps

I've heard of a few stories where cars that don't get driven much will sometimes try to eat their owners...........................

Ray, the same thing almost happened to me once. When I put the hood up, I push the lower part to one side and the lower the hood just to where the top piece hits the bottom one and kind of locks it in to position.

Sorry to hear that happen to you and glad that you weren’t hurt, but the way you wrote it up was funny as he$$. :L

Just Put A Allen Wrench Between The Cyl And The Lock Part.that Way You Will Not Accidentally Push On The Locking Part.i Had The Come Down On My Head Before.

That almost happened to me. But my Bruce Lee like reflexes helped me keep the hood from coming all the way down!:L
