So I called my local Chevy dealer to schedule an appointment for the recall repair on the steering column lock, to have my crazy fuel readings corrected, and to get my front right tire taken off (the rim has a small dent in it from a curb) and put it on a factory rim I bought off ebay. I told him I had the service bulletin info on the fuel gage problem and that I would give him the info so that he could make sure the parts were there before I brought it in. Now the nit-wit starts in "Well, ya know, that fuel problem could be anything, we have to tear into it to see what the real problem is, that's gonna take some time -- and that wheel you want changed over, that's gonna be $85. Not anyone can do that, that pressure sensor has to be calibrated, the only other place that can do that is Firestone." I told him forget about the tire and asked if Service was open of Saturday. I told him that I would like to bring it in at 7:00 am Friday and hopefully get it back Saturday afternoon. Nit-wit replies "Service is open on Saturday, but we don't work on them on Saturday. Bring it on Tuesday and we should have it done by the end of the week." I tell him no thanks. I call Firestone, they can swap the tire and sensor & balance it for $32. I'll find another dealer to fix the recall and fuel problem. Anyone know of a good dealership in the Fort Worth area other than Bankston (formerly Hudiburg) Chevrolet.

The steering column recall is not a fix. It's my understanding that it's just a flash upgrade to cut the fuel off should the steering not unlock. You still can be stranded with a locked steering wheel. I suggest getting a column lock bypass kit if you want to be 100% sure you'll never have a problem again.

Service Advisors!!

Do not blame all of the service advisors for the nit wit you ran into. My service advisor is fantastic and has saved me hundreds of dollars in labor alone.

He is also a vette owner and is a past member of a Corvette Club. He allows me to drop my car off on a saturday and brings it inside for the weekend until they start on it monday morning.

I only had my car touched twice and l was thrilled both times at my dealership.

Ps I note to remember most dealerships have a 132 point inspection for new customers where the go through your vette from nose to end and then advise you what it needs if anything.

The recall stated that they would remove the locking pin which means that the steering wheel will no longer lock when the key is removed. I already experienced the locked column a year ago and they replaced some internal parts and I've applied to GM to get my service deductible refunded to me on that repair.

I'm a parts customer of Reliable Chevrolet. I typically call my commercial parts guys and he sets me up with someone he knows in the service depatment to make sure it goes well for my customer. Or I can do Van Chevrolet.

Richard.

You might Try

CHUCK FAIRBANKS Chevy, INC.
629 N BECKLEY
DE SOTO, TX 75115-4804
Phone: (972) 223-7611
Fax: (972) 223-4161

I know Chuck, went to High School with him and I feel that he will give you a honest deal.

I had Discount Tire swap over my tire to my new rim. $23 instead of $85 like the dealer wanted. I watched them do the entire swap and there were no problems. I don't know why the dealer told me that the tire pressure sensor had to be calibrated, after driving about a mile the sensor began working on it's own.

I agree....my Chevy dealer has a special service writer and mechanic for Vettes and they always do a great job...you just got a newbee or a jerk..thats all...all service writers can't be judged by that one lemon...:L :w

Before you go anywhere contact Scott Schreder at Vandergriff Chevy in Arlington. Scott's direct line is 817-299-2377. Quality work and Scott is a hell of a guy. Tell him I sent you and he will treat you right and honest. He's also a christian gentleman.

Ps: leave it to me, his last name is spelled Schroeder

When I had my Column lock recall done at Howard Chevrolet in OKC and it only took 1/2 day and the service advisor seemed to really know what he was doing! I know it surprised me too!:w

OMG!.......please!......and your point is?......... almost every service writer in America is a Christain....:eyerole

Business is business!

First of all lets leave out religion and it's not about if a service advisor is a crook or not. It's about if the service advisor knows anything and how much he knows about the vette.

A service advisor is rated on how much dollars he writes each week or month, so keep this in mind.

You should not bring your car into a dealership without knowing what is really needed. If they come up with something that you are questioning then bring it to another person for a second opinion.

And it's not always about the price but the peace of mind.
