Any members near Green land NH?

I have a car I need eyeballs on!!!!

Any takers for a dangerous mission?

Vig!

I don't know where Green land is in NH (never heard of it), but I was just up in NH today and could have taken a look if I had been nearby and known earlier. Sorry!

Elaine

DOH!

Thanks anyway!

If it's Greenland, it's south of Portsmouth, NH, not far off I-95. What's there and are you serious about driving/shipping a car that far? I might go undercover:D.

Vig,
I gather that much. What are we looking at. Year/make/model - I assume a Vette. PM me if you'd rather. I'll check my schedule and see what I can do. I just realized this is in the C2 forum. This might just be worth a trip:D. If this is the Greenland south of Portsmouth, it's only 50-60 miles away.

Guy

Vig and I have it under control. As luck would have it, I'm off Wednesday and I'll be near Greenland picking up a set of original Goodyear Polysteel tires I scored for the 82. If anyone wants to go with me give a yell.

Frame rust 101

Swiped from 71 Shark (Eric) in the C-3 area.

Heres where I look / what I do in my rust investigation whenever I check out a vette for someone.

1. Look all around underneath w/ flashlight, if you see swiss cheese tell the guy "nice car, see ya later," if not, proceed.

2. Check the A-arms for stress cracks and rust, they take a lot of abuse over 25-30 years.

3. Take a business card and run it along the window frame (learned from an NCRS judge), if it comes out red, the A-pillar/window frame is shot and that is a MAJOR repair. Also, check the area above the door hinges for rust - I've seen fresh paint applied right over the rust on the A-pillar before.

4. Check the rear trailing arms and the slot in the frame where they mount.

5. Check the radiator support, lots of times the rubber flap gets bunched up and water just stands and eats away at it. These I've seen 50% gone already from rust.

6. Safety check - run your hands along both frame rails, at the rear a few inches ahead of the back wheel are keyholes on each side. Stick you finger in the holes and run it around, if you feel anything sharp, the frame may have been straightened. Some people feel perfectly safe with this but I pass on it.

I feel like I'm forgetting something, if I remember any other key points I'll post them. These are just the majors, a detailed inspection is always in order.

Good luck!

Vig - I printed that out and I'll take it with me.

Going undercover. The name's 82...82-Guy - make mine shaken not stirred:D.

You be careful out there, we need you at Carlisle!!!

More frame rust 101

Post swiped from Bullit

Check especially in front of the rear wheel . Take an old rug or something to lay on and don't be shy about checking under that car real good. Look at the brake calipers for leaking too, that could be a bargaining chip. One other major thing to check for is windshield frame rust. This is major $$ repair. Run a white buisness card between the glass and the molding and see if you get any rust color on it.

Going back for more!

Vig!

Vig,

Which car is this that Guy is looking at?

82 guy is checking out

the NH/ greenland/ pimpmobile special

AKA

UGLY......

White 64 with SUPER FLY front end.

I got confused. I thought that one was sold. I should have known better though. It takes a special person to buy a car that looks like that. :L

Tell Guy to be careful and not breath any fumes off of that car. We'll be trying to buy those lights for his '82.

Your mission profile is yet to be fully determined..however we at HQ are trying to get all the info needed....

The "Ground Zero" mission is close at hand.

Here's what we currently know
1964 Corvette convertable/ 4 speed/ not stock engine/ after market radio. runs & drives ( batt might be low)

"I bought the car Aug, 2002 from a guy in Rye, NH who had owned it for about 3 years"

" The last time that the car passed a NH vehicle inspection (which surprisingly is pretty involved) was Dec. 2001"

"the front frame appears straight, allthough the bumper mounts were cut off, and has a
non stock radiator setup with elec. fan"

This means no factory radiator support.
this is ok.

"The frame front to back has had some small rust and has been reparied in 2 spots I could find and has a bolted on rebar kind
of brace under the gas tank? I don't know why its the best part of the frame."

"The paint throughout on the car is about
a 20 foot paint job, meaning that you don't see all of the little dings and chips from that distance."

from the jpeg's I recieved.. I saw around the hood opening..flaking paint. I believe this car to be riverside red at one time.

Black interior

2 tops ( rag top needs replacing)
Aux top needs headliner & rear pexiglass

He is a smart fellow.. based on this post:
"I know I'm probably shooting myself in the foot, but I've been looking alot a "corvetteforum.com" which is mush more geared to the anal retentive types who have long running aguments about the day of the week that the car's motor was built, those people are nuts".

I told him about us.. and linked him to this post!

"The car is not and will never be any kind of museum piece and anyone foolish enough to spend the kind of dough to make it something its never going to be is nuts. It a really neat car that looks weird,
runs and drives OK and nothing more."
