My 87 Coupe has standard power seats. The driver's seat works OK. The trouble is with the passenger seat. It actually is moved to the rearmost position. I know that the gears are shot because when I move the control to move the seat forward, only a buzzing sound ocurrs but the seat won't move. In order to fix it I know I have to take the seat out of the car but it is so much to the rear that I can't get to the bolts that hold the seat in place (the ones on the floor of the car). Is there a way to manually move the seat forward and backward? I bought the car that way so asking the previous owner is no use. The seat can be adjusted up and down but not forward. Any help out there? Thank you.

Does taking the seat cushion out help? Can you remove the back from the bottom to get better access? I don't know these seats but those ideas come to mind.

After you remove the seat cushion bottom, did you make sure the cable is still tightly attached to the motor? It may be that the gears are not stripped, but that the cable worked itself loose.

I tried to remove the seat cushion bottom by pressing inward on the "wire thingie" in the front but it would not budge. This part moved inward but still the bottom would not come off. I did not want to pull too hard on the cushion because it might break. Any other ideas?
Thanks to all.

That "wire thingie" is the only thing holding the seat bottom in place. You'll have to undo, or unlatch, the clip to release the seat bottom. Try sitting on the seat cushoin while you hook a small flat-bladed screwdriver in between the clip and the seat bucket. ;)

hi, i have the same trouble w my 90 and find that if you hold the cable while pushing the forward button it will work. the cable has to be moved till it works. the seat cusion also comes out real easy. just lift it out is what i found

While it looks like you have lots of good advice, I'll add my 2cents worth.
Push down hard on the very front edge of the bottom cushion, which will loosen the wire clip in front. Push the clip directly back to the rear of the seat, which will release the cushion. Then, while you're using the forward switch for the seat, help push it forward to get the gears engaged. Should work.
Let me know how it turns out.

before you destroy the seat, first you must raise the seat to the highest position electricaly, then proceed with un-securing the clip. You may also notice that when the seat is raised first, that it will actually move freely in all directions. Best advice is to kid gloves.

hi, you know it seems a coincidence but both of the seats quick going forward or backward at the same time. you can grab the cable under the seat and they will move when you push the button. thanks joe
