Heres a teaser.

Going to watch Kingpin and go on my 5 mile run to go cool off. I could of have built this engine better with my eyes closed. C'mon in the basic stuff was over looked.:mad :mad :mad :mad

I'll post more tonight with some notes on them, I hope someone will learn something out of this.

That doesn't sound too good. What kind of fix is needed? Sounds like it might be pricey? Is any damage to anything but the pushrod? Any idea what caused that? High RPMs?

Good luck with the fix. I'm glad you figured out what exactly caused the problem. :)

Sorry to hear that guy....

I'm going to pop off my valve covers again tomorrow just because of your experience....

Sorry again.

Don't forget, if you have monster damage, this is the best time to upgrade. It was the only way I could look at my rear end giving up the ghost and later my wheel blowing off. Those two events have cost me 30% of the massive amount I've overrun the cost projections so far, but I got a little something out of it.

This one is for you TR.

BTW this is the roller tip rocker from the drivers side, the healthy side. As you can see the wear pattern on the roller is right on and everything looks well lubricated.

So what is my course of action going to be?

Next weekend I will have the time to work on it. So saturday I will be taking off the manifold and seeing how extensive the damage is. There is metal shavings under one of the rocker arms. Going to check that out to. I will document it and post pics.

With my wedding coming up in June, obviously it has priority over my car, I am not going to be able to do anything to this car. At least anything major so.........I will purchase a new set of pushrods, install them, lubricate everything manually and just move the car so that I don't get the city called on me. No more cruising or stang killing :(

Is it a bad thing? Well yes and no. Yes in that this totally sucks.

No in that I will hopefully be starting a body off resto around this time next year. This engine is going to be replaced by a supercharged 400 SBC. Mods.....yeah Wayne there is going to be A LOT of them!!:L With the help of this community and their input it should be a heart stopping car like Chris's (69myway, I hope at least :L)

Thanks for your guys input on the matter. As always this place as great:beer I'll keep you guys updated on the progress.

:eek :eek Oh my goodness! That looks terrible! So if there is no pushrod when you were running it, that valve couldn't open, so there was no combustion in that cylinder? That must have screwed up the whole cycle, huh?

Thanks for the pics! :) And good luck with everything. :)

Frank,

Those guide plates usually require hardened push rods. The metal shavings could be a sign. Any chance on being able to tell if they are not hardened?

Maybe a Rockwell hardness test :L

But if thats the case I'll just buy them. I'll provide more detailed pics next weekend, you guys can help me do a failure analysis.

Frank
