After a complete disassembly, clean-up, checking of brushes, bearings, etc., greasing, painting and testing, the headlight motors are done.

Hey 67, just checked the web site. WOW, you are a patient patient man!!!!!! That thing really looks GREAT. keep up the good work!!!:D :w

Does anyone know the correct finishes for the headlight motors? 67 Heaven, Looks nice. What paints did you use? I'm in the process of doing mine (63). I used regular grease, is that OK?

Thanks for the help

I use Seymour Stainless Steel http://www.seymourpaint.com/index.cfm/products/?id=129 Not correct, but I like it. Very fast drying too.

IMHO....I would open it back up and use white lithium grease on the gears. The same stuff you use in your engine build up. It will help chase away any moisture that gets in there and will not dissolve. You said that you tested them...I guess, you know that you can hook it up to a battery charger and spin the motor. And there is an adjustment screw for meshing the gears or something...too tight and it won't spin freely.

I am also sure that you will invest in a digital camcorder and provide us with some small mpgs of that 502 running ! :)

I just rebuilt mine and used synthetic bearing grease. Any problem with that?? Anyone know how to adjust the backlash?

Chainshot, The adjustment will that take the slop out? I pulled mine, cleaned them up and replaced the pot metal gear and it still has some slop in one. BTW 67 Just like everything else you've done 1st Class man!!! I'm sure you hear it a lot but I bet it never gets old.. Wish I could do mine that way... Dave..

I don't think the synthetic grease would pose any problem.

youwish2beme - It might....if the screw is too tight though, it won't hardly spin that little motor at all. I'm not clear on what you exactly mean by "slop." If you are talking about the speed of them going up/down - yes, I think that adjustment screw would help. If you mean that the entire bucket is loose and has freeplay - I think that is a different story - probably a geometry type thing with the gears, bucket and motor.

It's got a little slop up and down if you move the bucket with your hand. I'm going to pull it all back down before I get the motor back in... Dave..
