Sad but true folks C6 will be a pretty car but no longer a "True" Corvette more of a Cadillac XLR in a sports bra. The 2004 model year will close 51 years of Corvette history, a car that has no platform mate. GM will NEVER admit to it but 2004 is a truly historic year for Corvette Its last "pure" model year in my opnion.

What? Where is this coming from all of a sudden???:confused

As much as I hate to admit it I agree with you.
It seems that General Motors is letting Cadillac steal Corvettes platform all in the name of profit !! I guess its cheaper to robb it from corvette than for Cadillac to enginner one on there own..:bang

The Cadillac is built at the Corvette plant not visa versa. The XLR is more Corvette than Cadillac. It won't last just like the Alante'. GM would be better off making a 2+2 Corvette if they want to capture more of the sporty high dollar buyers not a slower Cadillac version of the Corvette. Cadillac will never shake its "Old Man's Car" image no matter how much Led Zepplin they play or how many cylinders they cram into a concept car.

;LOL He's at it again :Buttslap Put your stirrin stick away BlackIce(C4):bash :w

Never knew that the Cadillac was built at the Corvette Plant, learned something new. What will Cadillac do next ?? Start selling
Corvettes at their Cadillac Dealerships !!!! and let me guess, try and figure out which one to buy, a C5 or XLR :bash

Since I myself have ordered a 2004 Vette, it would be nice, in a way, knowing that I would have the "last of the true Corvettes". However, I don't necessarily agree with CFour that this will be the case. Why don't we wait and see what the C6 is like before jumping to any conclusions.

Well said!

Let's step back a moment to a time when I was in the ninth grade and eagerly awaiting the arival of the new Vette (C4). Rumors abounded that it was going to me nothing more than a souped up version of the F-bodies which had been redesigned two years prior. Well then GM decided to tease us all with some specs on the suspension and other goodies. My point is, show me a C4 owner who would trade for a 3rd gen f-body.

The largest input from XLR that c6 will be getting is the electronics integration. No engine or transmission similarities, exept for the same design Getrag unit, different ratios though at 2.97.
Aside from that, all electronics integrations factors are the crossovers.
If you drive them, you would know.

last 'true' corvette

I remember when each of the last few new versions of the Corvette came out, there were critics who lamented the changes. I even remember Paul Zazarine (sp?) talking about how the C5 was somehow a degradation of the Corvette ideal. I think that reviews, sales, and owner loyalty have shown the C5 to be a remarkable example of a combination of performance, value, styling, comfort, etc. Dave Hill is still the person in charge of that program, and I just don't think that we will be disappointed. I would put my money on the C6 being, once again, 'the best vette yet'. Like C4C5 specialist says, sharing some framerail technology and a few electronics matters far less than the engine, suspension components and tuning, etc. I have owned two C5's, a '97 A4 and a 2002 Z06. I will bet that I will have a C6 at some point.

I think I can agree with the basic premise (if I understand it correctly) that the 2004 will be the last "true" Corvette. I interpret that as: The 2004 model will be the last time the Corvette is a truly unique car unto itself.

I don't particularly mind that Caddy has partially usurped the marque, but I do recognize that, after 50 years, the Corvette has a true sibling which it never did before.

BRAVO! Glad to see someone with eyes and a brain in here for a change.

I think CFour owes Eric a beer or a Coke for getting him out of that one. How stupid of me to not catch what CFour REALLY meant when he said the C6 will be "more of a Cadillac in a sports bra."

And I quote CFour --> "BRAVO! Glad to see someone with eyes and a brain in here for a change."

If all of us are blind fools, why bother posting here? There is another forum that encourages this type of post. Perhaps you can "remember" the web address?!

Lets keep this a productive discussion without the slinging of insults....

No insults slung just a pat on the back for reading what I said and not reading between the lines. Like most people tend to do here.
