I'm Stupid - Wittek Clamp

May I add glass fuel filters? Guess I'm too darn cautious.

Paul, In all my 62 years , I have yet to see any car guy get into trouble, by being over cautious.

Just another one of the traits us ole fellow pick up over the years. ;)

What year car and where on which fuel line?

Hey John, it's a 63 and it's the ~15 inch rubber hose piece that connects the fuel sending unit to the main fuel line. And it's held on by two clamps.

That connection isn't an issue (assuming the hose is fresh) - that side of the fuel system is under vacuum, not pressure; it originally used spring clamps. Have never seen one leak there unless the hose has deteriorated.

I don't know how the '63 differs but here is what the '64-'67 calls for. 15" rubber hose and two spring clamps.

What do you think?...:)

i'd say you have a problem and need to change out your fuel hose and clamp with a new hose and proper clamp.
leaky fuel is something you want to deal with immediately before the car has no later!

Pretty well gone there. Replace ASAP. And with ring clamps. I thought you were speaking of the engine area. My bad.

Just waiting for the line clip bolts to come in and I'll be replacing it. Fuel is already drained. Back to the original topic though, do you think I'll be alright with the Wittek clamps they provided (Zip)? And when you say ring clamps, are you talking about the worm gear ones? Like the ones that are currently there (obviously would use new ones, but same type)? Thanks for the help.

You can use any kind of clamp, new or used, that will effectively tighten up. As John Z has pointed out, That connection isn't an issue (assuming the hose is fresh) - that side of the fuel system is under vacuum, not pressure. If you have new Wittek clamps save your money and put them on or reuse the worm drive clamps that are on there now if they are in good shape. If any of them bind up I'd say toss 'em.
