as some of you may know my quest on what my car "actual" value is has been leading me to find out the insurance value. well i called my insurance company "Progressive" which is suppose to be class A insurance and was told they don't offer no such thing as Replacement-Value Policy they told me i could put in a stated amount or have my car appraised. ok fine. then they told me my 6 month policy would go up 300 dollars.

i'm looking for an insurance company in Maryland or a highly recommended National insurance company that insure a vette for "Real" world worth of the car. I know i could sell my vette from 12k-14k and would like to protect it for that amount since this is a second car for me. This has really gotten my attention cause in the fall i will be looking for a ZR-1 or Callaway. I asked them about that also. I said "if i buy a ZR-1 which new was a 70k car now worth 25k or so on the open market and kelly blue book says the car is worth 12k what and how would it be the insured price of the car?" they told me they'd go off their so called "Resources" ie kelly, nada, edmunds, ect ect to come up with a price. So basically if someone hits me and cracks up the fiberglass and needs new paint well the paint alone would be around 4k unless i let them do a Maico job (NOT!) and more less more than 2k in damage they'd total it out and i'm stuck and piossed off for 6k. funny thing is 6k is Excellent Condition! which mine is starting to show some signs of cracking in the driver seat.

BTW i'm 30 years old with no points!

GRRRRrrrrrr..... HELP!

Insurance

There's a company 'Grundy' that advertises heavily on the Classic Car Shows and promises an 'agreed' value policy at reasonable prices. I haven't had the need to check them out because my existing insurer (Erie) gave me a very fair shake.

Michael.... State Farm has mine, but I've been leery about any Classic or "specialty" insurance because I don't want any mileage restrictions placed on me. I drive mine a lot more than 1K miles a year. Beware the fine print. I'm sure I could do better out there, but I also have a sense of security with a major company (IF) I ever needed to make a claim. I've also been with them for 30+ years. We have an agreed value and I have it reviewed every year to compensate for market changes and changes I make too. Go with what you feel comfortable with.

Good luck........... Bob

Mike,

I had a thread about Ins. a short time ago, search for that.

Erie will let you "lay the car up" for 3 months in winter w/o
re-registering it. That saves $150. I don't know what they
do about value, but I doubt it's much better than the rest.
Erie's pricing is a little better than average.

Mike, If you are looking to insure the 87 vette American Collector car will do it for you. They insure cars that are 15 years or older so you made the cut. Grundy now only insures vettes from 73 and older. They wouldnt insure my car which is an 88. mileage restrictions do apply though for their classic car insurance. Call them 800-360-2277

I went with sneed Robinson & Gerber the only restriction they have with their agreed value policies are that they not be driven to work no mileage limits, there is a age limit I think it is 25 no tickets or wrecks of course, I have a 20,000 value on my 92 for 354.00 a year. They must be in a locked garage at your residence.

I have American Collectors. The limit is 2,500 miles per year. Here is their url:

http://www.americancollectorsins.com/

They have covered me for agreed value, with full collision and comprehensive, and no deductible. Also, they automatically, increase the coverage by an inflation adjustment each year.
