Intake Manifold #'s question

Hi all;
I'm beginning to tinker with my 68 Vette, [YEA!] and boy the person who owned it before me was a dipsh-t! Talk about some jury (edited by Bob Chadwick) rigging work! He used gasket sealer, instead of a gasket, to mount the carb to the intake manifold! And he put both an electric push pump on the car and left the mechanical pump attached! :eyerole Anyway, that is irrelevant to my question.... just venting a bit! ;)

The intake manifold # is 3890490; which I looked up and it is off a 66-67 300 or 350 HP motor. So, if that is true then it isn't original. My question is, is it possible that this intake manifold was used in 1968, or should I have the casting #3919803 to match the HP suffix code block I'm supposed to have... does anyone know?

Also, I have the 3925660 tranny casting number which I know is an M22; did all corvettes come with the M22 option in 68? Or is this a bit "special"? I'm thinking they probably did, just want to make sure!

Hi,
The 67' 300 h.p. intake was cast iron and painted orange.
The 67' 350 h.p. intake was aluminum and was painted silver.
It was a semi-high-rise design and was easily recognized by the
WINTERS snow flake which was cast into the aluminum.
WINTERS being the company who made the manifold.

As far as your transmission goes, remember that the v.i.n.
derivative of your car, along with an assembly date are also
stamped into the side of the transmission near the front where
it mounts to the bellhousing.
Something like P0202 would mean Muncie transmission division
assembled on Feb 2nd.......
So if the last sequence of numbers in your v.i.n., for example
S12000 denoting the 12,000th 68' Corvette made that year
does not show up stamped on the tranny, then it has been
changed at some time in its' life. Which is really not a big deal.

Good Luck in your search,
Mark B.

Well, I'm pretty sure the tranny is original; its a 68-69 tranny. I'll check to make sure; I don't really care - I just want to make sure it is an M22 without having to take the darn thing out to see the splines.

The intake is the aluminum one and does have what you mentioned on it. I'm just wanting to know if it was *possible* for this to be put on 68 vettes at all from the factory. :) THANKS!

ALL '68-'69 Corvettes used the casting #3925660 Muncie main case casting, regardless whether they were M20, M21, or M22; highly unlikely that it's an M22, as only 80 were built, and most went into L-88's.

The 0490 intake was only used in '66-'67 on the 350hp L-79's; that's a high-rise intake for a Holley, and the only '68 that used a Holley 4-barrel was the L-88.

I have a 3919803 intake if you are interested. It's in nice shape, and has the oil fill tube on it. It would need repainting to look good.

P.S. Yes- Happy birthday!

it's somewhat possible that the manifold is original in that back in the "olden" days, parts were used until they were used up. if GM was long a supply of manifolds during the previous year's production run, the remaining supply (particularly when they didn't change the engine block for years, lol) was put on the next production year vehicles. of course since there was tremendous interchangability, it's possible a previous owner changed it out.

How much you want for it? At this point I'm not restoring the car to original; my plans are to turn it into more of a slolam car.... but it never hurts to have original parts around just in case!!!
