After enjoying my car for the 1st summer, I'm struggling w/ keeping my original carburation all in adjustment and last night was fortunately enough to notice a major fuel leak coming from the supply line on the center carb.Things are fine now after a little wrench work and I really like the looks of the original 3 dueces but if I were to convert to a single system ,what would you all recommend..My better half has allready told me that I cant spring for a complete crate package so I'm left w/ either rebuilding existing equipment or converting over to something easier to maintain.
I need to keep her in a good mood becuase I'm now looking for a nice 69 vert BB to add to my garage. Thanks all Jim.

No....there is no life after a 427/400! Find the right guy or shop to get your job done right and live life as it should be lived...with 3x2's!:D

I have the 427/400 tripower in my 69. No problems with it. Runs like a scalded dog too.

Don't know what kind of problems you're having with it. The system should run on the center carb only until you put your foot into it. Chuck

Heh Jim,
You have a classic set up there. The orignal intake and carbs go for big Bucks...!!! I mean Big Big Bucks. Do a search on ebay under sold items or any other corrvette related site and you'll see that this set up is very desirable.

As Mentioned ..the Tri Power set up only runs on the center 2 BBl Carb. The outer and inner only come on under heavy demand. The center Carb is Only a 2 Banger...no big deal to rebuild as with the other 2.

I'm sure John Z or SWC Duke or another forum member can suggest a rebuilder for you. You might also want to consider restoring the intake as well.

It's money well spent for this set up. It can only go up in value. Once rebuilt ..you'll see how well they can run....

If you can't crate then rebuild and keep it, no brainer.

Drive it like you stole it,
Gerry

i have a friend that i run into from time to time at local shows with the same set up you do. his was pretty much the same story also. car ran poorly, leaked, etc. his salvation (according to him) was when he sent the entire setup back to holly (i think it was) up in tennessee or kentucky (not sure which, but i'm certain that someone here will be able to provide that info) and had them "do the job right". he said the car has never been better and the smile on his face is from ear to ear. he said it wasn't the cheapest job he could have had done, but it was done correctly. rebuilt and restored back to the day the car left the factory.

Ok Ok I'm convinced. My dilema now is trying to find someone here in the northern part of Ohio that can do the job rite. OR can someone recommend a shop that does tripowers well that I can ship the intake and carbs to. And I quess while I have your attention, how much do you think that complete job may run. I appreciate the help once again !!! Jim

Hey ChuckG,

I have to ask you about your 69.I'm really happy w/my 67 tripower, but now that I've got that one I really would like to find a nice C3 vert w/ a BB.Doyou like driving your 69 as much as the 67 or visaversa. Just courious..
Has anyone seen any nice 69s available lately. If so please forward site to me please. And maybe a good attorney, I havent told my wife yet. Talk to you all later Jim in Ohio

VNV,
I hadnt thought about the intake, but your rite,I'll take the entire system off and get them rebuilt. But kinda wonder,, what goes wrong w/intakes? It looks pretty clean. You've always given me great advice, I hope someday I can repay the favors to future C2 owners. Jim

Love my 69. It's the best "driver" I have. My wife and I have taken it on NCRS road tours from Baltimore to St. Louis, Bowling Green, Long Island.

Reliable...FAST....no problem car. Ran a "best" of 13.7's at the drag strip. Consistentl runs 13.8's. The 3.36 rear is great. LOVE the Turbo 400 auto trans.

My 63 runs great too, BUT the 4.11's drive me nuts. It's NOT a fun Interstate driver car. Chuck

ChuckG, Sounds like my next project will be a 69 but one more question. Wouldnt you rather have a manuel. I've never considered an automatic in a corvette unless I needed a hip replacement. Jim

What Goes wrong with Intakes...???? Well it it works ok ..chances are there aint na-da wrong it it. I have seen intakes with cracked mounting ears and damage around the thermo housing. I didn't mean to imply that there's something wrong with yours.... just that if your gonna have the carbs rebuilt and made to look like new...(which they will be)...you might as well have the intake Glass Beaded and coated to look like new.

I forget the name of the process that they use to renew the appearence of th intake. Ok..Foum guy's wht's it called??..

But just picture those brandy new carbs sitten on top of that shiny clean intake..... That's a beauitful Thing.... :beer

The choice of transmissions doesn't matter one bit to me. My 63 is a 4 speed car, while my 54, 69, and even my 2000 are automatics.

I'm 58 years old. Have no prosthetic parts yet :)

My wife is also a major car enthusiast. A little known fact is that she is a NCRS Master Level judge herself. She can't drive a 4 speed car to save her soul, so the choice of an automatic is so both of us can drive the car/cars.

If I were in the market for another Corvette, the transmission is far down on my list of importance in choosing a car. Chuck

ChuckG and VNV,

Great advice, your rite if I'm spending $$ to rebuild carbs it'll looks much better w/pristeen intake, and you bring up a good point about the automatic vs 4 speed. My wife may agree to another vette if she could drive it more for herself. Thank you both.. Jim

Keep the 6-pak!!:Steer :lou junk!!
