is this a real LT1?

I think the tach should red line a 6500 rpm, looks the same as my L48 tach. I'm sure some member that has a '72 LT-1 will chime in sooner or latter.

Yeah, what'd he do in there (engine compartment)?

1. ignition shielding is gone
2. what is that chrome piece between the fan shroud and carb?
3. headers
4. replacement rad cap, master cylinder cap, and oil fill cap
5. pcv vacuum system wrong - which means that the entire engine vacuum system is suspect.
6. aftermarket air cleaner
7. wire bundle ties everywhere
8. wiper door vacuum actuator painted not plated
9. A.I.R. system missing

Other than that? Not a lot that you can see. The tachometer should either be 6500 for a non-a/c car or 5800 for an a/c car.

Air conditioning wasn't available for corvettes with the LT-1 option in '70, and '71. It wasn't available until late in the '72 production run. The tach red line should be at 6500 for this car.

Quite correct. I knew that but looking at the tach, it appears that the red line is something other than 6500. I should have been more clear, recognizing that that low of a VIN was an early model, with a/c not available.

Good post. I just muddied the water by not specifying the 5800 versus 6500 as appropriate for very late cars onlly.

Gary, you weren't wrong at all. Looking at the tach it does appear as though red line is something other than 6500. I just wanted to point out that this car shouldn't have air...basically for informational purposes. -John
