Your car looks great Ray!

Won't be long before it's back in colour. You must be getting excited.

Take care,
Brian

Ray that gray paint looks falmilur

I dont know if you had read my post about paint curing.

Well to make a long story short my advice to you is to allow the car without paint on it to "off gas" for a while in a heated garage. My car sat for a while before its final paint about (3 weeks). But it was stored in a garage at only 45 degrees
I feel there is still solvents in my car that are coming out, between the paint, primer, sealer, body work.

A mistake may have been made with my paint job because it feels soft, like I can put a fingernail in it,where as the bottom of the car had no body work,no sealer, only a primer, then the chip gaurd and then last the paint, the bottom of the car is rock hard,I could whack it with a hammer.

If I raise the heat in the garage to 70 degrees I get a paint smell. So for sure temputure has an effect after the fact on allowing the paint to fully cure.(this is a paint that was done in a real spray booth with a million btu heater)

Just some honest advice from some one who is dealing with what I consider a soft paint job.

Good luck

Looks great Ray. How did you get there so fast? Did you prime it in your new shop? Do you have larger versions of the pictures? Is this going to be a Urethane paint job? Sorry for so many questions.

Studiog & IH2loose

I transported the 65 to a friends shop. I had completed all the prep work at home (over 100Hrs.) I do not have a heat make-up system so I cannot or do not like to spray at this time of the year. The friend is the one that sprayed the PPG lacquer that I had the problems with. He believes that moisture some how got trapped under the lacquer, maybe the PPG Polyfill that caused the problems. I have had it there for over two weeks in a heated area so I hope the body is at room temperature and I should not have a problem. He also has a heat system for baking the paint and this will be done before I return it home.

Studiog, the new addition is for the finished cars, a clean area. A place where you can sit with friends, have a pop and talk about Corvettes (other cars maybe). I have two bays in the older section 26' X 28', one with a lift, 12' ceilings and the other for paint, cleaning exct. I have the exterior 95% completed on the new section 20' X 28' and hope to pour the concrete when the weather breaks. (Spring)

I plan on using PPG BC/CC on the advise of John M. The previous lacquer paint was scratched by a zipper the first time I had the car at a cruse night. I had numerous paint chips and only had a few hundred miles on the car. I think durability on a base engine car that will never bring top dollar is the only way to go.

Thanks for all your help!

Wow Ray, she really looks great. I am sure you will be very happy with the durability of a modern paint system.

Why am I thinking Silver. :L

PS: Wish I had half the shop space you have now :)

It is all most in paint

The 65 has received its first coat of K-38 high build primer and will receive a second coat very soon. Color (Gleen Green) should be days a way!

Ray,

I know that it has been a long trip with a couple of bumps along the way, but it will all be worth it in a couple of weeks. The first time you take off down the road with your new paint, you will forget about all the problems. Congrats!

Hi Ray, I'm excited for you! There is no better feeling after all that prep work to see the car in paint. Can't wait to see the pictures! Good luck.

Hi Ray

it sure will feel good to see color on her again won't it!
:)

I know how you feel. I should start to see some color on BABY tomorrow I hope - at least the cutting in of the door jambs and insides of the doors themselves.

BTW, I really like your choice of the Glen Green color. My friend just sold his '65 GG Vert and that color looked great on the car. It was one of my choices of colors when I was searching for my car last year before I found my Milano Maroon car.

Thanks guys! With all the snow here in WNY I was wondering if I would ever get to drive the cars again. Barry, where are the pictures and information on the early Corvettes at your paint shop. I plan on selling the 65 this summer and will be in need of a solid axel project for the wife. Another project! Must be crazy!!

It is in paint!

The first coat of color was sprayed yesterday. It is being used as a quality control coat. Light sanding and any imperfections repaired, then the finial color coats will be sprayed. Color coat to insure color coverage and then two more wet coats. Should be done next week!

Ray, it should be stunning when the final colour is on and buffed out. Can't wait to see it, as I'm sure you are anxious too!

Keep those pics coming.

Take care,
Brian

glad to see the new paint starting to get put on Ray.
Can't wait to see more pics when she is done.

I do not believe you can. X normally means that the picture has been deleted from the host site.

ATTRET 00:

I have retrieved added the pictures to the original post.
