i need to jack up the whole rear end, both wheels at once. where is a good jack point? i got one of thoes 2000lb hydraulic floor jacks.

You can use the differential as a lifting point, but if you have the stock exhaust system you'll need somehting to reach the carrier from the floor jack; the exhaust is in the way for you to seat the carrier on the jack saddle.

If you don't have a "Jack-A-Vette" or something similar, you'll have to lift it from the lifting points at the side frame rails (the stock jacking points). If you look carefully, you will see a place to position a jackstand once you get it high enough to work under.

Good luck and always perform your work safe manner. Don't take chances if you are unsure.

What's a "Jack-A-Vette" and where can it be found ??

"Jack-A-Vette" used to be advertised in all of the Corvette magazines, i.e., Corvette Fever, Vette, etc., but I haven't seen an ad for it lately. Probably because the piece doesn't seem to justify the cost they asked for it - something around seventy dollars. :eek

What it is basically, is a piece of steel about three-inches long or so that is welded to a replacement saddle for your floorjack. It allows you to reach and lift the third member at the center in between the rear exhaust Y-pipe. My mechanic is going to fab a similar piece for me now that I am back to undercar exhaust. When I had the Side Effects it was no problem lifting from the rear because I had no rear Y-pipe. :cool

Contact "gadget man" at corvettegadgetman.com. He has designed a device called an E-Z Jack Adaptor that works great! It protects your exhaust pipes and allows you to position your jack under the rear housing and lift both wheels at the same time. I purchased this E-Z Jack Adaptor and was amazed at how well it worked.

I've used a 2X2 - 4 inch piece of oak placed above the tail pipes against the rear-end housing and my jack saddle fits between the pipes.

Ken, what happened to your Side Effects?

They were fine for the L-98 but not the horsepower of the new engine; I just couldn't get 'em quiet enough to not have to worry about getting a ticket. I went back undercar with a three-inch system and Flowmaster 40s.

What a bummer. I thought they added a lot to the look of your car. I still wouldn't mind getting a set, but it'll be a long while - between taxes, a 10th anniversary trip with my wife, and other expenses my big-ticket extra cash is gone for the forseeable future :( .
