First Off Welcome to :CAC !! We have a Large Time Here and allot of Information!!! :lou Now to your Ride, You really haven't given enough information!! Allot of things can make a car Jerk when shifting!! Start Off how many miles are on the car?? Has transmission ever been serviced!! Is the throtle pressure cable ajusted properly??(Detent) Are the Motor and Transmission mount good, what kind of shape are the rear control bushings??Dose it have a Random miss or a dead miss?? How long has it been sense it was Tuned up?? Dose the Check Engine light work,if so is there any codes?? :pat

thanks for the quick response! the history of the car is blurry, i dont really know much about it. i do know the motor and tranny mounts are good, and it had its tune up right after i bought it. the service engine light does work, but it hasnt been on...the mileage is 123000.

Usually once I'm going from 1st to 2nd gear, all the jerks are behind me... ;)

I wouldn't think a timing chain problem would manifest itself as a shifting jerk, though. I'd think it could be a lot of things from play in u-joints to a sloppy transmission to just something like a shift kit. But I'm no expert.

What kind of jerk is it? Like a quick fast shift? Or like the power gets disconnected and then comes back on?

the jerk is not that bad, but it is noticable. its just a quick little jerk that happens only when going from 1st to second, it is the original tranny so maybe after 123000 it needs replacing...
