I've had a rattle that has been driving me nuts, very noticeable right at
1400 RPM. Sounded like exhaust, my old ears would have sworn it was coming from the front, I actually thought it was a cat with loose guts, but inspection and swatting with a rubber mallet turned up nothing on the cats, resonator or mufflers. All hangers looked good, no evidence of being too close to the body, I finally took a hard look at the rear muffler hangers you mentioned had caused your problem.
Only one of mine seemed loose and it did NOT seem like it would cause the noise I heard, but after several inspections turned up nothing else I decided to tighten up that rubber isolator using some sliced up radiator hose.
Bingo, that cured the noise much to my surprise and delight! Without your post I would never have figured that could be the cause, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
