Just gotta rant about the brakes...

For the second time in the last 6 months, the caliper pin that holds the caliper onto the bracket popped off while I was driving. I managed to get home without killing myself, anyone else or damaging the car.

But couldn't GM have made a better method of holding the caliper on instead of with a little pin that comes out so easily? :(

Are you putting new pins and keepers on them? Never cut corners on things that make a car stop or go.

Yes, I put a new keeper and pin in there. The reason why I'm ranting is because this happened just a few months ago. :(

Sometimes, you just gotta get creative and improve on the work from DTW.

I've worked on C4s for more than ten years and have never heard of this happening in normal use. First I'd get the offending caliper off and inspect it, the mounting bracket and the pin carefully. If all appears well, I'd review the service manual data on reinstalling a caliper then reinstall the pin properly.

This is a first for me. Is it possible that something is hitting the pin and knocking it out?:confused

I doubt it because I use a C clip and this other clip that is included. The pin is made by Raybestos.

Just an update...

You guys never heard of that happening, but it happened again today. As I was leaving for the train station, I hear grinding so I park the car in front of my house. I get out and inspect the same caliper and sure enough, the pin had popped out.

It doesn't look like it slid out from the side. It looks like it has popped out from the back. Two times in one week!

That ain't right.

I'd definitely pull the caliper off & check it out...

If the pin pulled through from the back you have the wrong pin, a worn pin, or the hole for the pin in the caliper is worn. The pin is steel and cost about a buck while the caliper is aluminum and cost lots of $$$ so I am guessing that the problem is with the caliper.:eyerole

When you get to the heart of the problem please snap a few fotos, I would really like to see what is causing this.:confused

:bashPlease spend this weekend pulling the caliper apart and solving this mystery. We all like you a lot and do not want to have to reply to an Edmond memorial post.:( :w

Don't worry Spanish,that won't happen! :D

I'm going to pull it off and see what it looks like. I'll get back to you guys and let you know. I have ordered a GM pin, I'll put that on and see how tight it is.

Meanwhile, I'm driving my Camry. It's not all that bad because premium gas has reaching $2.40+ :(
