Hi,

I have a 1988 Vette. The alarm system arms and disarms as usual with the lock button.

How would I know if this car has keyless entry capability and where would I get the transmitter?

Thanks,

J

Don't know, but i have been pondering installing a factory passive keyless entry on my '92.

This is the first car I have had that does not have it!

hey guys,
there is something in the Eckles cat.
1984-1992 custom-made keyless entry system complete plug-in installation, 100% compatatible with factory anti-theft system. looks to be about $294.99
84-85 - 39279
86-88 - 39278
89- 40634
90-92 - 41021
I have the spring summer 02 cat.
could maybe check the web site and use the # to see if it is still avalible.
I'm thinking of going to this also.

hello
i installed the system from ecklers on my 87 conv. it works great.took some time to install but pretty simple.

I installed one of these units from Ecklers, on my 89. It did not work. The phone number in the instructions did not answer, Ecklers gave me another number and it did not work either. Ecklers sent me another unit and after it toasted the interior light/hatch release relay, I packed both units back up and Ecklers gave me full refund. Try this site:

You do have to cut some wires unlike the Ecklers pieces, but it is a lot cheaper. Less than $100. I am considering trying one of these soon.

Yeah, but I want the one with the passive arm/disarm feature. If you are going to spend the time, you might as well get all the goodies.

A couple of my thoughts:
1. PKE at times can be a real PITA. Like when you are washing and waxing. As you walk around the car it wil lock, honk the horn, unlock and continue to cycle.
2. Unless you park in a relatively safe area, should a potential thief wants to steal something out of your car, they will rip your convert. top to unlock and take what they want, despite the alarm.
Consider these points before spending money on PKE retro fit.
If I'm not mistaken, factory started to install this starting in 93 or so.

Keyless entry

Check your local car stereo shop. I had a compatible keyless entry installed on my 88 for $99 plus $20 for each door relay. Total was $139, with 2 key fobs. System works great, opens rear hatch also.

That sounds like a deal. Just one factory keyfob cost me around $100. Local dealer wanted $165.

;stupid

I also think this was standard in 93.
My 94 has it and I love it but it is a pain when you want to work on the car.
Just need to hold the button on for 4-5 seconds to de-activate and repeat to re-activate.

Not sure what the aftermarket has for passive stuff?
There must be something with all the wild custom shops out there
