Any L.A. area folks with nothin' to do this Sunday the 26th?
I'm going to be working at putting the '58 together this Sunday. The body's on the frame now, but there are still a lot of things left to do. I need to install seats, carpets, doors, trunk, hood, bumpers, gas tank, soft top and brakes. Then after lunch, we'll be . . . :L

I'll probably be here (Hollywood) from 9:00am to 6:00pm. I'm not expecting huge progress, but it should be fun and of course I'll be supplying all the "necessities!" ;)

If you think you might come and you have a specialty, for instance, if you have at least a slight idea (unlike me) how to hook up brakes, let me know and I'll make sure I don't attack that particular job before Sunday. If you don't know how to do anything, than definitely come, because you'll fit right in with me! :beer

58 construction

Sounds like a good time Mike.
P.M. me with info on where this wrench fest will occur and I'll be there.

Looking forward to it...

Chris, I should stop by your place on the way. I was thinking about running down Vista Del Mar to Culver to La Brea to Santa Monica to Mike's place. :cool

The address and phone are:
1119 North Las Palmas Ave
Hollywood, CA 90038
(323) 383-7374

Las Palmas is two blocks east of Highland Ave (about 8 or 10 blocks east of La Brea) and I'm three buildings north of Santa Monica Blvd.

This is a recording studio rather than my house, so younger kids will get bored fairly quickly. My seven year old won't be here. But older kids should be fine as there are several rooms they can "get away" if they want. I do have pinball, TV, and (if I clear it off) a pool table. And of course they're welcome to help with the car, of all things! :)

My '58 is in my parking lot in back of the studio. We started digging footings for a garage I want to build, so I don't have as much room as normal. But we can still get a few Vettes back here and can stack even more. I'll park my pickup on the street.

My tool collection is OK but certainly not spectacular. I think I have everything we'd need, but I've been wrong about that before! ;)

That'll be great if you guys can come by!

Sounds like it will be a great time! I will be there in spirit! (Unless, of course, you want to buy my plane ticket, Mike. Then count me in.)

I'm all systems go for Sunday. Anyone is welcome.

I probably won't be at the computer today or Saturday, so if you have any questions, call me at (323) 383-7374. Hope to see you here!

I'd love to be there too but maybe I can help anyway. I should be around home on Sunday hopefully assembling my short block. If you get in a bind about how something is supposed to fit and I can supply a photo or information just shoot me off an email. I can also email you my phone number in case you need an instant reply.

Leaving here December 20th early and should be in Green Valley AZ late on the 22nd if we don't stop too many times. We'll be out there til after new years. I don't know what all I'll be doing. I do know that my wife and her mother and aunt will be shopping . I think there will be at least one side trip with them and I'll be spending a few days with my oldest son Jeff in Mesa. He is going to build me a super computor that will brown out everything west of the rockies when we test fire it. At least that's what I said I wanted.

I hope I can get together with some CAC people while I'm out there. I would really like to get to CA and check out your car again. There's been a lot of changes since I rode in it last.

You realize that if I make it out there you west coast members will have to put together a caravan to the CAC Midwest Regional in Auburn IN next May. See Midwest Events forum for more details. Our committee is meeting again on Monday at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum to work on dinner plans. This meet is going to be awesome.

Guys Good Luck and be safe.I hope evry thing goes perfect.Takes some pictures.

Mike I hope you get some folks to show up.I have been invoulved in a meeting like this before putting together a 57 thunderbird to help a person have his dad drive the car before he passed on.

Almost every one was a stranger but all were car enthusist All were from different camps ford chevy dodge model T's and we all worked as a team its was a blast to see the parts become a car before our eyes. The best part was I am not used to having somebody beside my son or wife work with me on a car so to be under the car putting on a bumper and to be feeling around on the floor for the nuts and bolts have somebody sticking there hand in your face with the correct nut's bolt's shims and proper wrench and socket was great it was like working with a clone of me we were all thinking the same.Hard to describe but I will allways remember the team spirit of that day.

We did complete the car for the fellow and his dad got to enjoy driving it for a couple of months before passing.

PS mike this might be short notice but prior to arriving we were given a plan of attack of ecaxtly what he wanted to acomplish for the day and in the order it should be completed,we were also asked to voulenteer for what we were best skilled to do.I took to the assembling the rear of the car with another fellow.

You whiny SOB! :L After Bud, DoG and myself headed east for two years in a row to meet with you guys! :eyerole

I do plan on taking pictures. :D

As for picking a job, we'll take that as it comes. :L

I'm not whiney. I'm just looking out for my friends. :D I would really hate to see a bunch of west coast long faces if you missed this event. BTW Bud has said that he just might make the trip. :) I might have to start thinking about a long distance award to be presented at the dinner.

As for a goal on what will be done on the '58, I think a drive around the block by 5 pm would be nice. :D

2nd BTW how does your car like to autocross? Big open course we're talking here.

Tom

Mike, sorry I can't make it out there for the party, but if I could, I'd work on the RIGHT side of the car :D :beer

Re:

Does anyone on the East Coast do any type of garage gathering through the colder months? I'd offer, but I only have one garage and my '66 Chevelle is in there ('59 parts are in the shed- for NOW)... I'm in MD, but would definitely be up for catching up with any fellow wrenchers to turn some.

Jim (CHEV66JB)

Mike; I to am a little too far away to swing by or I would be there! It should be great fun! Sounds like you got your paint fixed. Onwards and upwards! Let us know how it all turns out.

Mike's interior. I should have taken pictures of how he modified the floorpan on the driver footwell to accomodate his 6'6" frame (long legs ;)). He should market it, much as Chris (69MyWay) is doing with the electric conversion for the headlamps of Sharks.
