I was wondering why the L89 engine was less money then the L71?

Maybe you can enlighten me as I do not know what an L89 or a L71 refer to. I guess these are engine designations but really don't know. It might also help to have the year of Vette we are talking about. Thanks

The L89 was not really an engine. It was an option to add alumn heads to the L71 engine. You had to buy the L71 engine with the L89 option and you got an L71 tri-power with alumn heads.

tom...

RPOs L89 and L71 available 67 - 69. little book here say that, in 67, 16 people purchased the L89 alumium heads option @ $368.65; 3,751 people bought the L71 435 hp engine option @ $437.10, no doubt including those 16 who bought the aluminum heads for their L71

Correct - the L89 aluminum heads were an add-on option, only available on top of the L71 3x2 solid-lifter 427.

Thanks to you guys for clearing up my ignorance on the engine designations and the years they were available. Couldn't find it in the Black Book.:BOW

PS: Blackened--Wasn't trying to hijack your post just curious as to what the designations were for.
