STILL waiting for that scoggins dickey bb fuelie that VNV promised me for christmas, but i digress......:rotfl

...the left picture is one christmas present already installed and working just fine, a spal fan and controller that i bought from Tom DeWitt..worked first time right out of the box but i couldn't get the engine hot enough to kick in the high speed setting on the fan (it was about 57* yesterday (2" of snow and high 20's NOW :eyerole))....some CAC members really **** all over be-cool radiators but i have no complaints at all!...it also helps that this is a sb

...so, the next project is on the right, an electric water pump (once again, not sure i would do this on a big block but your thoughts are welcome)...just eyeballing this project, i may have interference with what will be the remaining v-belt, driving the alternator...i saw a magazine story where a serpentine belt idler pulley was used to tension the BACK of a v-belt and i will probably do the same....in FACT, i may just go for the record for the number of idler pulleys on one v-belt - how many do you think i should try for? (now, be realistic, there are only so many accessory holes on the front)...i have the original shp tensioner, i'll need the serpentine tensioner to clear the electric water pump, etc....i'm thinking 4 is the most that i can go for...god, that v-belt will probably cost a fortune..

...the next time that i break down at VNV's we can drive to the auto recycling yard just down the street from him.....after a few (dozen) beers, LET THE ENGINEERING BEGIN!

Blower? I didn't know you were looking that way. I have been thinking of a blower on my Trans Am WS6. Hood clearance is the issue. My father in law had a low rise B & M unit (I think) on his 69 BB before he went with the twin turbos. Keep us up to date.

Ok First Off... You can forget that... Had one to many beers.. when I made that promise..

Glad to hear that your suff worked the first time...Now.. Here's a Suggestion...It's tight enough working in the engine compartment of these cars..right..?? Ok . Lose the fan shroud... It is not necessary at all. Since Your electric powered fan is doing all the sucking being that it is right against that inferior brand Rad ..the shroud doesn't do squat except to make it look like yor set up up is stock. The Original engine driven fan needs the shroud to creat al ow pressure area for the fan to work.

But since we can see there is no fan hangging from the WP..it ain't stock..so lose the fan shroud and pick up some more room to work on the motor for the next time you break down at my house. Not to mention more airf low and a weight saving under the hood with out that hunk of steel.

Your idea of multi idler pulleys sounds cool.... I like the idea of doing something different.. Will mix up some of them there Mar-Tune-Ies and start the engineering...:beer

Joe -- Fan and shroud look good. Were you having temp problems ??? When you last took me for a ride in the sb it ran strong and very cool -- what made you add the electric fan ?

Hey John!

Just looking for every little bit of power that I can wring out of that little booger.

I shoulda' bought a big block :hb
I shoulda' bought a big blcok :hb
I shoulda' bought a big block :hb

All the removed bits are marked appropriately and stored away so that they can be sold by my estate with the car

God, I know where Waterford is. I'm CERTAIN that I broke down there also.

I may go the vortech route but the centrifugal superchargers substantially increase the input air temperature. From my readings, a roots-type blower does not compress the air, it acts as an air pump with the compression taking place in the runners. Not sure if it really makes a difference because right now I'm just reading the pseudo-technical stuff put out by the manufacturers.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW..now you broke my heart (again) :cry

i KNEW you would comment on the shroud....ok, it's just there for looks because i just hate that empty space between the front of the engine and the radiator (maybe i can fill it up with a BIG BLOCK!!!! Hey! great idea!!! :hb)

...if we put enough pulleys on the front, we can lose all the gains in performance that i realized by adding an electric fan and water pump!!! Now, THAT's worth a trophy :m

Ok..You'v mentioned BB quite a few times in alot of your threads...You know you want one.... Tap the 401K for a loan..pay yourself back interest on that loan..and lets get started on your BB Project.

Will make up a spread sheet on the complete job from start to finish. Well stat by yanking the body off and redoing the frame with all new parts.. Then will work on the BB install and your new Keisler 5 speed and rear end beef up.

Just think of all the fun we'll have... You have the room and the lift to do it. You also have your other BB to drive so that you won't go into MidYear withdrawal.

Lets see. 502...572..572R...Yeooooolw..

Your not getten any younger...Stop thinken about pee peeing money into a blower.... and all the other aggg your gonna run into to boost HP. Just by the BB creat motor of your choice and be done with it.

If you go the SB Boost Hp route..your still gonna have a SB and not the Nut Sack Twisten torque of a nice runnen street 572..!! Quit screwen around with all this research on blowers..

Lets get down and build it the right way... BB BB BB BB BB BB BB BB ..!!!

geez Mark, you are listing the 502, 572, 572R BB's. forget the panty-boy BB's and go for the gusto man.......... how about something like a 640 all aluminum block BB?
;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

hey, don't get mad at me because I called your 502 a panty-boy BB, look at me with my super-wussie lowly 327 SB! :D

.....I hear voices

big block :hb big block :hb big block :hb big block :hb big block :hb

...and i thought it was from years of dealing with lawyers :)

dear colleague VNV, surely you remember that my wife has all the money in this marriage....TOUGH times

Kid
maybe it's just me, but i am starting to get a faint feeling in the back of my mind that you want a BB motor??

;LOL ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

...CAN NOT let her visit this website :hb CAN NOT let her visit this website :hb CAN NOT let her visit this website :hb

BarryK....this all stems from me rebuilding both engines at the same time, it was a pure toss-up to rebuild the 327 or go for a bb crate motor, the costs are the same....oh well;shrug

.....i try to rationalize my decision by reminding myself that Zora himself (:BOW ) said the best overall performing corvette is the small block...but then again, going around corners is for "girly men" * :gap

*and a tip 'o da hat to the Governator that all Californians deserve, Ahnold!

Zora had lots of good one-liners, some with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek :) . I remember the Q&A session with the journalists after the press ride-and-drive of the new '66 Corvette at the GM Proving Grounds; one of the writers asked why he thought it was necessary to increase the big-block from 396 to 427 cubic inches for '66 - wasn't 425hp from the '65 396 enough power? Zora responded (with a wry smile) that weight reduction was one of the keys to improved vehicle performance, and any time you removed heavy cast iron (from the cylinder bore) and replaced it with light aluminum (the larger-diameter pistons), that was a weight reduction ;LOL

That is the kind of engineering that GM needs today. Given free reign Zora’s weight reduction program could keep the General out of bankruptcy.
Where are the great ones when we need them… gone to that race track in the sky?;worship

Great story!

...i think today's corporate weenies who consider themselves "great" are the accountants....wanna bet the new GM CEO will be a finance guy? :bash

..oops, sorry..wrong thread

...since the rain and wind and arctic fronts are not letting up, i may have the electric water pump on the sb before i know it and i haven't even had time to put it on the road after installing a new dash harness and the electric fan...not good to change a bunch of stuff at once

...good thing i can just coast into VNV's driveway when it breaks down...those former grunts sure know how to make a decent breakfast!:m

Yep ..just pulled out a box of "C" Rations from 1966.... aahhh ...I think it's Ham and Pea's.... mmmmmmmmmm good..! I'll listen for a Backfiring motor..see you then.

We used to hang those "C" cans in a wire basket from the Huey's rotor balance arm and let them sit in the turbine exhaust (at ground idle) for a couple of minutes to get them hot (almost any of them tasted a lot better when they were hot). Hint: Puncture the can first, or they make a hell of a mess when the can explodes. ;LOL

...well, as long as the directions on the heated C-rations say "Point this side towards enemy", you should be OK..

..you know, Claymore's would do wonders for the deer population on my property
