Has anyone tried the 1157 LED bulbs in the parking/tail light sockets? I have found some amber and red ones, but need to know if the relays handle it.

A warning that variable load relays may be required. They are on ebay pretty cheap.

Thanks

Beware

I am going to answer my own question for your benefit. They don't work!

They don't flash. They are not as bright as a bulb in the enclosures designed to reflect . Don't bother. If you have had a different experience congratulations.

Several guys have tried it on the Camaro...

The problem with the early Camaros is that the bulb comes up from the bottom of the housing. LED bulbs are designed to be viewed Head on.

As a result the bulbs appeared Dimmer, also because the drew less power, they flashed quicker, therefore they had to put in a different flasher unit.

They now have LED bulbs that point 90 degrees... might be an option.

From what I have seen with the 1157 bulbs, they don't seem to work very well.

An number of companies are recearching development of replacement lenses with LED bulbs properly integrated.... Those should work well.

I have never had great sucess with "adapter" type products. Either retro fit... or don't. Just my experience.

Cheers!

Don't believe anyone who tries to sell you LED substitutes for filament bulbs. Lamps designed for filament bulbs will never be as bright with LEDs, and will never have the correct beam pattern either. Filament lamps use optics that are intended to collect light from a point source like a small filament. LED conversions, even those with LED facing to the side, will just not work. A lamp using LEDs must be designed from the start to use them, it is that simple. Also, since LEDs use much less energy, the hazard warning and turn signal flashers will not work unless you use a flasher for towing trailers that is load insensitive. When you do that, then you do not have turn signal failure notification, because a load insensitive flasher can not tell when you have a bulb outage. LED conversion bulbs: just a way to suck hard earned money out of you.

LED bulb upgrade
Is this really an "upgrade" seems to be a step backwards to me :confused

It was a nice attempt at trying yo give a cheap option to a LED upgrade.
However it is alot like a cassette to 8 track adapter... cheap... but not really effective.
