I understand your point. Not a problem that you liked the product so much that you now sell it. I didn't mean ti "imply" that you were trying to sell this here. Just wanted to note that fact for others. When the time comes to give it a try I'll keep you in mind.

The test you refer to was one reason I almost went with Zaino. Strange thing that made me go the other way was talking to someone else on the board.

(Readers Digest Version)
He went to a show and was using Zaino. Met a Meguires rep at the show. He (car owner) had water spots he couldn't get out. Turned out the rep told him they were kind of locked in from the Zaino. He spent several hours remoiving it and then working on the spots.

I too have water spots and want to get that fixed first. My point is that in that case the Zaino work so well it was hard to get off ! The car owner has decided to stick with Meguires. He has a car that is winning all sorts of awards across the country so ????

I think stories like this mean alot in peolpes decisions. Some have good luck some don't. I hated the Megiures clay bar but I don't condem the entire product line. You have to go with the bell curve of opinions. Some will be extreme good as well as bad that you can disreguard and go with the average.

All personal opions. Like asking favorite color, best flavor ice cream, ect........ Imagine the debates

Thanks Pilot. No offense taken. I was in a bad mood earlier. I was about to head to the dentist office.

My "partner in crime" that works with me here with Zaino had a lot of hard water spots on his 1986 C4. He wound up stripping the top coat of clear thanks to help from Sal.

He was so impressed that he became my partner and I wouldn't be half as successful without him.

The surface of the car must be perfect so if you need to remove some imperfections, spend the time. It will be worth it in the long run.

I don't have a name of a distributor in your area. You'll probably have to call in to Sal or just order from the site when you are ready.

Cheers! :)

How did the Meguiars gold class do in those tests?

I just finshed off a bottle of Autoglym that I was pretty happy with and the local store had Meguiars so I am giving it a try. So far so good. My car gets polished almost every time I take it out so how long it lasts isn't real important at the moment. The Meguiars is a little harder to get off than Autoglym but it shines a little better.

I kinda fear I am at the point where I may have to wet sand it and hope not to go thru all the way.

What did your partner end up doing? Strip the clear off and repaint or just go with Zaino?

I'm answering to multiple inquiries here so hopefully no one will get confused.

I feel a little guilty publishing a somewhat-ZAINO solution in a thread not associated the product.

Mcguiar's Gold Class finished #18. Autoglym didn't make the survey this time. The people at Guru reports are working on the next interation of the survey. Thanks wwilkins for the information and your experience with each product. That's helpful to me.

What my partner did to remove the hard water spots that etched his paint was to use an abrasive 3M product Finesse-it II (1500 grit) and a buffer with a foam pad. (This is NOT the product in the Wax Test.) Part number 051131-05928. I found it at the local NAPA store that also sells paint products. Not all NAPA stores carry this product. It's a little expensive at ~$40 for 1 quart (the smallest container). A little goes a long way so you'll probably be set for life buying just the quart.

Since my partner wasn't very skilled at this, he actually went through the clear coat on a couple of hidden small areas that he had repainted. I recommend trying it by hand first to see how much pressure you really need to apply if you switch to a buffer. After the defects were removed, my partner went with Dawn/Z-1/Z-5 (ZFX wasn't available yet). He hasn't had a swirl mark of another water spot problem since.

What follows is the actual post from Sal Zaino when I helped my partner out with his problem. This was around the time I became a distributor and before my partner because a Zaino user. Other than the different product mentioned, it was the exact same producedure we followed:

What you are seeing is an etched spot in the paint surface. Although, I am totally against using an abrasive product on today's clear coated finishes. It seems like, in this specific situation, you don't have a choice. I would try 3M Foam Polishing Pad Glaze Swirl Mark Remover part #39009 by hand, not by machine, using very light pressure. This should do the trick but you may have to do the affected areas a few times. Be careful and only do the water spot areas, as the 3M is abrasive and will remove paint material. Don't forget to reapply your favorite wax or polish as the 3M products will remove them. If you opt to go with the 3M Foam Polishing Pad Glaze, see following tips. 3M Foam Polishing Pad Glaze use By hand: Simply apply a small amount (about the size of a quarter) to a cotton diaper or piece of cotton towel and rub back and forth into about a 1' X 1' section using light to medium pressure until it starts to dry out. Then take a second towel and lightly rub back and forth until the polish residue disappears and the gloss comes up. If there are still some swirls visible you can repeat this step until they are minimal. I prefer using a less aggressive product a couple times instead of using a more aggressive product once. After you are done you can wash with Z-7 and apply Z-5 or your own product of choice.

Sorry for the long explanation. Wet sanding your car is not fun to watch let alone attempt yourself. Let's see if we can save it. An option is of course to call Sal at tech-support (732-833-8800). He has more experience at long distance solutions.

Pilot-
I used mequiars for a long time, went to Zaino and back to Meqiars, now I use 3M and am very impressed. Check out all the threads on Zaino some members of this board and others have been having some "issues" with etching and water spots. Decide what you like and go for it. If you would like to Know more about 3M e-mail me.

I have always used Liquid Glass. Too bad I can't find it here in KS. I never had a problem with it and residue. It really does wonders for red cars!!
