when you start calling one another names like "stupid s--t", you're flaming.

well he called the dealership a "crappy dealership" and i took offence because it is owned by one of my best friends who i have been buying cars from since 1958 and corvettes since 1959.

VATS codes are not transmitted to GM dealers on Corvettes. The key codes are available to us but not VATS codes. The car has to be towed to a GM dealer then using the proper scan tool the correct VATS code can then be discerned. We do not obtain key codes for any GM vehicle unless the owner of the vehicle and NO ONE ELSE submits the title and or current owners card and picture ID in person. Needles to say,we turn away many unhappy people who have their owners card locked in the car or dog ate it etc, etc.
I've heard just about every story there is to tell!

i have the "fax " with my VAT code and key code in my file from GM. they must have changed in the last year or so since i got my 02. i may be using the wrong term for VAT code,i am talking about the key blank number to get the proper resistor.

Clem- It's all done over the internet now. No more fax transmissions. We use a secure GM website called DealerWorld. Back ground info must be provided on each employee with access to this site. That VATS code on your sheet is it coded? I'm not doubting your info sheet but I've never seen a proper VATS code transmitted on a corvette inquiry.

it gives the key blank number to use

Actually, the police (in most states I'm aware of) can easily run your plate and have an address within seconds. Every state I've worked with has their own system connected to their state's motor vehicle department. If the plate is out-of-state, they run the plate through a nationwide system that connects the states' computers (called NLETS).

Depending on the state, the response usually takes only a few additional seconds. We can also receive responses from Canada. All of these responses include the owner's name, address vehicle VIN and other misc. data depending on the state. My supervisor says it's been this way since the early 80s for the majority of the states.

Even if your plate came back "not on file," we would just send a message similar to an e-mail (only available on law enforcement computer systems) and request someone manually locate the information. That would be the only instance I'm aware of that requires anywhere from minutes to days to get a response (again, depending on the state).

As far as needing an incident report, etc., I've never heard of that. In Missouri anyway, you just enter the plate/VIN/owner name and you receive a response back with all owner information and vehicle identification.

Buster, are you talking about door handles or lock cylinders? There have been no lock cylinders on the passengers side of C5s starting with the 2000s.

So when would car thieves find out where the emergency key is hidden, will they be able to steal the car once they get in the car??

There is no hidden key. There is a keylock that will allow the key to unlock the door in case the system fails.

I'm referring to Lock cylinders. There doesn't appear to be any on either door of the C6. I'm thinking that the doors will lock and unlock by remote.

Are there any spy pics that show the drivers door? In the San Francisco pics you could only see the passengers door. Are there any pics I missed?

B/Stock,

There are quite a few of both doors. Take a look at "unusual C6 picture" in this forum. There are some great shots of the C6 being unloaded from a 747. Shows the driver's door clearly. Also, look at "anyone seen these shots", page 2 for pics of the C6 body. They're not super clear, but some side shts are in there.

Lastly, I will try to attach some shots that were captured a while back of the C6 under camo, some clearly show the driver's door. Lets see if I can figure this computer out :CRASH and get them to post.
