Well I will first start off with the story. It was Monday afternoon about noon and I decided to drive the vette to work. First time it had been to work all summer... BAD DECISION..

At work about three or so, I was getting ready to try some new breadstix that we are making. One of the clerks I was working with wanted to try a piece of one just to see if they were good or not when I heard tires screacing...so I jumped out of infront of the cigarette rack and looked out of the window only to see a guy run into the side of the building and shooting the cigarette rack that I was standing infront of out about three feet (keep in mind this rack is easily 7 feet tall by 4 feet wide) and shooting cigarettes everywhere..some packs went 5-10 feet.

At this time I was a little shaken up but alright, only to find this guy backing up, and heading straight for my vette (it was a miracle he hit the building instead of my car anyway)...well by the time I ran outside the damage was already done and he backed into my car...:mad Here are the pictures of the building and the car..

damn man! was he drunk? well atleast it don't look that bad. only a few hundred in damage. get the molding yourself and have a good paintshop respray the nose and your good to go.

this is why i hate people in general! :mad

No the dude was like 80 years. When he pulled in his foot "slipped" off the break and hit the gas...thanks god he didn't hit my vette. His wife apologized for him hitting such a beautiful car. I almost said "yeah when he see's the bill he will"...

I hate to say this but when you're 80, I don't think you should be driving anymore...

Amen to that Edmond....

But not unless you go take the test every year. I think that is what should happen, once you pass a certain age you should have to take the test more often. That way I can drive the vette well into my 90's :)

Holy ****. I go to sleep early one day and BAM, you go and get your car looking more like mine. :) Just Kidding, I'd be royally ****ed, and I hope you didn't kill him, but I suppose you'll just have to use this opportunity to get the whole front painted.

Murphy's law. That sucks!! Could have been worse though. Guy

Dayumn!! :ugh

At least you're OK and, on the bright side, you'll get the nose repainted which is something we could all probably use on our cars.

It's bad enough to hit the building BUT to back up afterward and run into something again is clearly a sign that his driving days should be behind him.

Excuse the pun..:L

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car but GLAD to hear you're okay! Hopefully it won't be too costly to repair.

I suspect that someday soon, drivers that reach a certain age will have to retake the driver's test due to the effects of aging on reflexes, eyesight, etc. I guess we'll all be there someday - some of us sooner than others. ;)

Main thing is you're OK and sorry about the damage to your vette! Lucky nobody was walking if front of his car at the time! It isn't just the age thing, it can happen to anybody anytime. Sometimes you're just in the wrong place at the wrong time, not that you're doing anything wrong yourself, just FATE at work. Glad there were no serious injuries from this one!

Back in high school my friends father almost lost his legs in the parking lot after a football game from a young girls error driving a stick shift. He was walking to his car between the cars and she rolled the car back on an incline but thought it was in reverse, when she popped the clutch the car jumped forward and crushed his legs between the bumpers of the two cars. She panicked trying to back off of him while he was across the hood of the other car and popped the clutch again after it rolled back a foot and crushed the one leg again. He almost lost the one leg but was crippled badly from then on. The young girl was hysterical and horrified too. An accident but once it's done it's too late. You can never let your guard down and in just a second it's over and done.

I've seen too many people pull into parking spaces at malls where they literally pull up to the car in front of them until the other car moves or they feel the "Bump", then back off it a few inches. Scary thought as you are cutting through a parking lot assuming they see you isn't it!

Keep safe everyone!

Damn that sucks. Let me know if you need any tape.

First of all - Very! sorry for Vettefan's Vette!!!

Second - Driver's test?? Are you folks serious??? Since when does any state have a test that tests anything like a driver's abilities???!!!!

Sheez.

If you drive the freeways of southern California for any period of time you will be absolutely amazed at some of the crazy things drivers do. Its been a downward spiral for years and with the polulation increases we are seeing the traffic becomes more dangerous every day. Sorry to hear about your car but count your blessings.

It's basically driving around the block and if you buckled your seatbelt and didn't crash, you pass. :L:L:L

if he turhs this into insurance he will not be driving again because they will not insure him. make sure you get a police report because people change their story after they get home

Does he have a choice if he can turn it over to his insurance company or not since the police will be involved? I'm sure the police would check his insurance and make an inquiry as to if his coverage is current.

At his age, not driving may not be a bad idea.

Sorry to see that Justin, but at least he hit the building instead of your car on first impact. With the amount of property damage no doubt this was a police matter --- he's done, time for a nice assisted living hime with one of those nice buses that drives you everywhere for him :L

You should be thanking your lucky stars you didn't stay put when you heard the squeeling outside and the damage to your car wasn't something bad enough for you to need to get rid of it :upthumbs

Let's see, you have your problems with the engine, more than once as I recall. Now this, have you thought about who is out to get you? Man you have had your share of bad luck, things are bound to start looking up.

It depends, everyone is different: Eyes, reflexes, mental clarity.

Then again, there are people of all ages who drive pretty bad.
