I have bought a 1977 corvette and the rear universal joints where they join on to the rear end are hitting the fiberglass housing. This results in a loud thumping noise when you accelerate. After you get up to speed the noise goes away. I can see where the joint is striking the housing. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem. I'm a new member and would appreciate any halp I can get.

Usually, that happens because one or more of the holes in the bracket which is bolted to the nose of the diff are elongated and the bolts are loose. This allows the bracket to pivot under torque, the front of the diff moves up and that puts the rear joint in contact with the floor pan.

Remove the bolts and inspect the holes in the bracket. Repair as necessary.

Hope you can get it figured out.......welcome to the CAC also.......good place to hang out.......:thumb
