Has anyone put a LS7 in a C3? They say it will fit but the oil pan has to be modified. But where would you put the oil reservoir? On a camaro they put it in the battery box area and moved the battery to the back. But again, on a C3 I don't know of a good location. Any thoughts on that?

I'm not sure what the dimensions of the reservoir are, but if you leave out the cruse control components there's some room in the left fender under the brake master cylinder. The rear storage compartment is another thought.

Pace, Gilbert (Sallee) and others have a wet-sump version of the LS7 for applications where there's no real estate for the oil tank.

LS7 in C3

I just watched yearone build a trans am for Burt Renolds and they used the LS7 and it got me thinking about it too.

I am seriously considering it now. I just have to see how comlicated it's going to be. I figure that I could do the engine swap, tranny swap and upgrade my suspension. I would then have a fairly modern ride in a classic car and still be thousands less than a C6. I really enjoy the C3 body style and even though this would be expensive, it would last for my lifetime.

Anyone got any info on how difficult it will be for this swap?

It swallowed that LS7. Looks like a beautiful job they did. I wonder what the detail is on the engine mounts and transmission crossmember were. Also depending on the year C3, I believe they are different with the power steering rack between 77' and 78', 69-77 being the same and 78'-82' being the same. This makes it tough for later C3's and big blocks.

Would it be correct to assume that the only "major" issue is the oil system? Because there's been plenty of LSx blocks put in C3's and earlier... And that being the case, then it shouldn't be that hard to find some threads around here with LSx conversions (such as LS1 conversions). :)

ls7

There are plenty of LS1 links. So far I have been unable to find any info anywhere on someone doing this swap on a vette. I'll have to do some more research. The engine is way too expensive to buy and not be able to use.

It might be easier to just go LS1 or I did find a deal on an LT4.

yeah and mine is a 78....get I better do some checking.
Milo, I don't think yours would be as much of a problem unless you were trying to put an older size big block in. (454, 427 etc.) It can be done, but I think the steering rack has to be changed so it doesn't intrude.

LS7 in a C3

Ok, after alot of research I came across one sight where they have put an LS7 in a C3. It was an aircondition car but they went with a classic auto a/c system to make room for the can.

Doesn't give alot of information or any real good pictures of the engine but it does indicate that it can be done.

I am looking at going a different route though.
