I was at a autocross yesterday here in cCincinnati. wonderful to see all the corvettes there. I saw a corvette that I didn't think was made that way. It was a 95-96 coupe. It has the same side gills as my 96. but it had the LT1 engine with a 5 speed. I thought you could only get a auto transmission with the LT1.

I don't think you said that right. A "5-speed" LT1 C4 doesn't exist.

A little info here:
In '96, all LT1's were automatic (4-speed) and all LT4's were 6-speed manual.
From 92-95, the LT1 could be had with either transmission while the ZR1 (LT5) was 6-speed only.
The 95 has the same fender gills as the 96 while the 91-94 had 'speed bar' fenders.

So, if you were looking at an LT1 manual trans car with gills like a 96, it is probably a 95 and it has a 6-speed trans.

I hope this helps

you are right - I probably was thinking that in 96 - you could only get the 5 speed if you got the LT4 engine. thanks

all LT1/4's came with 6 speeds unless you got an automatic :)

ZF6 from 89-96

Then a 4 speed auto.

Although it is possible that he would do a Richmond 5 conversion from an auto.
