LT4 LT4 1996 Grand Sport Convertible

1996 LT4 Topic
I believe I read somewhere that the Impala SS had the LT4 option in '96 also.

No, the only engine offered in the Impala SS was a detuned version of the LT1.

The Camaro and Firebird each had an LT4 before the LS1.

I was surprised to learn that the thing that makes my "96 CE LT4 unique is the interior color ; black. They made more CEs with the grey than red interior than black. I thought the Z51 would have made it unique. But there were 1839 with that option and only 751 CE LT4s with the black interiror. Go figure:L 751 6-Speed Coupes with Black Interior

If you take a look at the Interior Color breakdown at the bottom of the page with the RPO codes you will see the following:

2,513 Black interiors made w/ Collector Edition embroidery
2,359 Gray interiors made w/Collector Edition embroidery
540 Torch Red interiors made w/ Collector Edition embroidery

There is no documentation showing how many of these CE/interior color combinations had the LT4 engine.

I was told along the way there might be less than 300 Collector Editions with the Torch Red interior and the LT4 engine.

I guess I misunderstood. Here is some of the list of production numbers that I was quoting from (see the "751" reference - what's that mean than?)

Hey, that is so cool. I did not go far enough to see this breakdown.

Mine is 1 of 41: Collector Edition Coupe, Torch Red interior, LT4, F45 Suspension.

Thanks for showing me this!

No problem. I thought 751 was good, but 41...way cool . You can really say your car is in fact "rare" .

When you look at those numbers there is one thing missing. It doesn't break down the number of Z51 coupes. From the numbers there were 164 CE LT4's with red interior, of those 41 were F45 suspension, which leaves 123 for both the standard suspension and the Z51. Now we all know that the Z51 was only in coupes for this year, where as the F45 was in both coupes and verts. With the Z51 being the rarest suspension choice produced it should be easy to determine that the production of Z51 LT4 CE's with red interior would be less than 41. Of course those that ordered these cars could have ordered many more in this configuration. Where is a mathmatician when you need one?

I wish there were better production numbers available. I know my car is at least one of 123, but statistically it's closer to 1 of 20.

Still a super cool car!

Only from SLP in the very uncommon Camaro SS LT4 and Firebird Firehawk LT4. I think there were something like 100 SS's and 29 Firehawks with the LT4.

Very true! I have only seen one (1) Camaro SS LT4 in person and that was back in '98 I think. Volo Auto Museum was having an auction and the car was for sale. SLP did a fantastic job on putting that one together. The car was just beautiful.
