I'm going to do both next week. The ones on there right now are as old as the car and I figure that I may as well change both of them right now since I have to remove the master cylinder to get to the booster.

I looked it up in the manual and it looks like a pretty simple job. The only thing I don't understand is they said something about a pushrod thingy on the booster?

What about the booster vacuum line? Should I go ahead and change that as well? I think it was only $15 or something like that.

Being only moderately capable of a mechanic (at best), should I be able to do this within 2 hours?

The pushrod is located in between the booster and the master cyl.. It might fall out so make sure you don't lose it.It pushes the piston in on the master cyl. when you apply the brakes...soooo if you forget that :duh .
Also make sure you bench bleed the master cyl. before you install.:upthumbs

Booster/Master

It is possible to change the booster without changing the master, but it is tight. The hardest part is the nuts inside the car. A long extension with a flex-joint will allow you to get it done. It is a little tight fitting 'upside down' in the drivers seat. I have known some to remove the seat to give room for working. Best of luck with the project.

The nuts inside the car? So I'll have to take that plastic piece underneath the steering wheel off and get to some nuts from there?

I don't think I'll have a problem with that, I'm a small guy at 5'5", 128 pounds and I changed the PROM last year hanging upside down.

I changed mine for a year ago i tryed two workshops but they didn´t seem intrested to change it. So i did it my self, it helps if you are an acrobat. :w

The instructions that came with the booster didn't make it look too difficult. I think that I can do this! But I could see that if you're a bigger guy or not so flexible, it would be quite a feat to say the least.:L

where did you get the booster from?? I have an 89 and I already took mine out due to the booster housing was cracked and well, vacuum leak and obviously no brakes. i have been unsucessful in finding a new one

I got the booster from a local store called Murrays. It is remanufactured with a lifetime warranty. I've spent quite a bit of money at Murrays and they've treated me well so I went to them. I just couldn't see myself partin with $230+ for one out of the catalogs...:(

I do believe that you can send them off somewhere to be rebuilt though.

Big guys changing booster

I am just over 6 foot, 250 lbs and changed the booster myself. It took me a few days to walk correct after that :L However, it sure was great to have the brakes working again.
