OK,

Truth: I suck at math.
PC version: I am math challenged.

Given this thought, if I have a 7.4L or a 454ci engine, and it is bored .030,

what is my new displacement?
How much oil should I be using?
Should I go by the measurement on the dipstick?
Or am I just a dipstick?

Please send ;help

How much oil should I be feeding her upon diaper change? Seems like i'm only putting in about 5 quarts

the amount of oil is determined by the oil pan. If your original pan used 5 qts and you didn't change it it will remain the same.
normally the pan holds 4 and the filter holds an additional qt.

being the dipstick that I am.. I have to ask...

Obvioulsy the more oil I have the better for the engine. Should I consider a deep sump pan? Do I have room for this in my 454? My LS1 eats up 6 quarts on a change. I feel like I'm neglecting her or something.

Shes got roller rockers, HP lifters, rods, and valves, Ti stops, Cam, and bored .030

Do I need?

I use a moroso 7 qt pan it is not deep but has "kick-outs" and the proper pickup. With the low ground clearance of a Corvette a "deep" pan may be a problem.

??? I'll have to get back to you on that one. I have no tach :eyerole

I think the word you are refering to is DIPSH*T not dipstick :( What a bunch of DIPSH*TS :t Not What a bunch of Dipsticks

I'll take this one in stride... for the CAC.

;shrug ;shrug ;shrug :SLAP

I don't take well to people refering to me as a dipshi t unless I know them well. Even if they are joking. I should not have to do research to see if someone is an ahole or not.

IMO you'd be better off with an engine oil cooler then a new pan and more oil.

What you have should be sufficient for your engine but cooling it will keep the entire engine running cooler and should help in several areas including wear and performance.

Good luck!

Didn't big blocks come with tapped holes above the Oil filter for an oil cooler ?

from page 6-39 of the Chev power book
All high-Performance Mark4 blocks have provisions for oil cooler
there is about three paragraphs detailing how to install and the part numbers.

if you are interested I can type it all out another time, but basically it tells 2 ways to add an oil cooler and part numbers

Only the 4-bolt solid-lifter blocks came with the drilled/tapped/plugged holes for an oil cooler.
