I bought a lower left hand dash pad with the speedo and tach at a swap meet. The tach is mechanical. Any one know how to tell the year model? I can find no obvious part numbers. The speedo is a 160 mph. What was the last year for mechanical tachs?

The numerals are white, the orange line begins at 5000 and the redline begins at about 5300.

I can’t be too much help on the tachometer other then I know that the later 70’s (and maybe early 70’s) L-48 and L-82 equipped Corvettes were different. The L-48 red lined at 5,300rpm where the L-82 red lined at 5,600rpm. As far as the speedometer head part numbers are as follows:
1969 - 1974 6496850
1975 - 1976 8987282
1977 (Only) 25015662
1978 - 1979 (Early) 25016830 Canada - 25016832
1979 (Late) - 1981 25024090
Also the attached picture is of the differences between them from 1969 – 1977

I believe the LT-1's also had it's own special tach due to the differences in the engine redline (due to the solid lifters and such).

It ought to have a tag with a GM part number on the back of it. Post the part number. Based on the red lines, it's a standard L-48 tach.
